Republican state senate candidate Joe Kelly is showing us his philosophy: “Rules for thee, but not for me.”
Before its recent debate, the League of Women Voters of Greenwich explicitly prohibited candidates from editing or using debate video footage for campaign purposes. The rule was in writing, and every candidate received it. Seven of the eight local candidates complied, both Democrats and Republicans.
But Joe has ignored that rule, posting edited debate clips on his social media. Even after being asked to remove it, the video is still up.
The rules aren’t optional for some, and they aren’t partisan. Rule following is about basic fairness and demonstrating respect. If candidate Joe Kelly won’t respect the rules and the institutions that make them, what should voters expect from him as an elected official?
Christina Downey, Greenwich DTC chair and former BOE Vice Chair, is disappointed in State Senate candidate Joe Kelly’s disregard for rules including campaigning on public school campuses. Also, she said, “Mr. Kelly just this week again flaunted the rules for debate participation by the League of Women Voters. The LWV makes it crystal clear that candidates are NOT permitted to film the debate NOR can they use excerpts from the LWV file for campaigning. However, Joe and his team simply ignored that and put out a video from the debate.” https://bit.ly/4st6glJ
