🏆 Greenwood Fire Department Achieves the Highest Possible Fire Protection Rating in the Nation
The Greenwood Fire Department received an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification of Class 1, the highest possible rating awarded through ISO's fire protection evaluation process.
This achievement places Greenwood among an elite group of fire protection agencies nationwide. Published 2024 national figures identified only 506 Class 1 communities out of approximately 37,730 classified communities, representing approximately 1.34% of the total. In other words, fewer than 2% of classified communities had achieved this distinction. Only 6 Indiana fire departments and their communities have obtained the ISO Class 1 rating.
An ISO Class 1 rating recognizes an exceptional level of fire protection and reflects the combined efforts of fire department operations, emergency communications, water supply infrastructure, and community risk reduction.
Achieving this distinction is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of Greenwood firefighters and the support of the City's administration, elected officials, dispatch personnel, water utility partners, and the community.
This accomplishment represents more than a rating. It demonstrates Greenwood's commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence, and providing the highest possible level of protection for the residents, businesses, and visitors we proudly serve. The Greenwood Fire Department extends its appreciation to all current and former members whose service, dedication, and commitment helped establish the foundation upon which this accomplishment was achieved.
