The City of Greer celebrated a big milestone and its commitment to public safety today.

Greer City Council, the chiefs of the Greer Police Department and the Greer Fire Department, and the city administrator cut the ribbon to officially open the new $16 million Public Safety Training Center on Hood Road.

The facility is the first of the ForGreer capital projects to open, and it’s a big step forward in supporting police, fire, and emergency medical teams in the city and beyond.

The fire training tower, indoor firing range, and seminar space will allow our first responders to train here in Greer instead of traveling to other parts of the state to sharpen their skills.

ForGreer Project Update: Another big milestone on the site of the new Greer Sports and Events Center

The team has begun paving the parking lot on the S. Buncombe side of the 26-acre property. When it’s finished, the lot will have more than 500 parking spaces. The site has room for hundreds more vehicles in the overflow parking area.

Construction of the Sports & Events Center is on target to open the facility in early 2027.

City Council recently took a hard hat tour of Greer Sports & Events Center site, and now, we’re giving you a glimpse of what they saw behind the scenes.

Harper General Contractors provided an update on the construction timeline before the group set out to see how the plans McMillan Pazdan Smith designed are coming to life.

Many council members hadn’t been on the property since the groundbreaking last August. The 200,000-square-foot structure has really started to take shape in recent months. It’s much easier to envision what nine basketball courts, a wrestling room, and event rental space will look like now that pre-cast walls are in place and structural steel is going up.

Construction is on track for a Spring 2027 opening.
