I’ve recently been made aware that several accusations are being made about me on social media. Unfortunately, I have been blocked from my opponents page which in turn blocks me from seeing where some of these statements are being made, which means I’m unable to respond directly.
So, I want to take a moment to set the record straight and make sure our citizens hear the facts from me.
First, regarding the pay raise:
The raises were addressed by the City Council during the budgeting process. The City Council voted to approve raises that included council members as well as the mayor. I did not ask the council for a raise, nor was this something I initiated.
Any statement claiming that I personally asked for or gave myself a raise is simply not an accurate account of what took place.
Second, I’ve seen comments regarding the amount of time I spend sitting behind a desk at City Hall.
Being Mayor is not a job that takes place entirely behind a desk. Many of the situations that require my attention happen throughout our city. There are meetings to attend, problems to address, projects to oversee, phone calls to take, people to meet with, and issues that require me to be out in the community. Not seeing me sitting at City Hall does not mean I am not working for this city.
I have always believed that if someone has a question about my decisions or my work as Mayor, they have every right to ask me. I’m willing to answer those questions. But there is a difference between asking questions and presenting assumptions or accusations as facts.
As we get closer to this election, I encourage every citizen to do your own research on each candidate. Look at our records. Ask questions. Attend meetings. Talk to us directly. Don’t make assumptions based solely on a social media post—mine or anyone else’s. Be informed and make your own decision about who you believe should represent this city.
We may not always agree, and that’s okay. But spreading false accusations or misleading information should never be part of the process.
And when we publicly speak about our faith and the importance of Christian principles, I believe honesty and truth should be among the principles we uphold.
I will continue doing what I was elected to do—serve our citizens and work for the betterment of our city.
If you hear something about me and want to know whether it is true, ask me directly. I’m always willing to have a conversation and provide the facts.
Do your research. Ask questions. Get the facts. Then make your own informed decision.
