Behind the Scam: Holiday Edition
Protecting Businesses and Our Community from Fraud and Financial Crime

As the holiday season approaches, increased shopping, online transactions, gift card purchases, and financial activity can also create increased opportunities for fraud and scams. The Gresham Police Department, in partnership with the FBI and Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, is bringing together experts in fraud prevention, investigation, and prosecution for Behind the Scam: Holiday Edition.

Hear directly from local and federal law enforcement and prosecutors about what they are seeing, how these crimes happen, and the simple steps you can take to make yourself and your business a harder target. Know the scam. Spot the signs. Protect your business.

What does $6,000 in savings look like for a growing small business? Just ask Blue Pine Grill 3rd Street

We’re excited to spotlight Blue Pine Grill as they opened their second location right here in Historic Downtown Gresham back in March.

Through the City’s Garage to Storefront program, they saved $6,000 in permit fees during their expansion—removing a major barrier to growth so they could focus on what they do best: making great food!

Interested in growing your business?

The Garage to Storefront program is designed to help local entrepreneurs successfully transition into brick-and-mortar spaces, fill vacant commercial properties and support expansion efforts.

The application for the Gresham Lilac Run beneficiary opens today. The deadline to apply is November 23, 2026 at 5:00 pm.

Since the first race in 2018 the Gresham Lilac Run has selected a Gresham-based organization to support. Thanks to the support of Unitus Community Credit Union and other generous sponsors, a portion of registration fees collected is given to selected organizations to help improve the lives of underserved youth and families in our community. This year's race will continue that tradition with a community beneficiary.

Last week the City's Economic Development Department and the Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnership hosted Gresham area high school students and Gresham industry representatives at Mt. Hood Community College to expose students to the experience of running a manufacturing business.

Approximately 70 students from six high schools played "Ready or Not" a business simulation game and learned to make real-world business decisions about production, staffing, finance, marketing, and strategy.

Thank you to these companies for supporting Gresham's students.

Welcome earthenware pottery to downtown Gresham who just opened up early this month!

Thanks to the City of Gresham’s Garage to Storefront program, this incredible local business transitioned from a parking lot business to a their first physical studio and retail space, offering artists an opportunity to sell their wares onsite.

Located right around the corner from the Saturday Market, earthenware is Gresham's first community ceramics studio, offering a welcoming space with shared wheels, kilns, and workspace for clay enthusiasts of all skill levels.

Our Garage to Storefront initiative is designed to help local entrepreneurs overcome the barriers of opening a physical location, and earthenware studio is a perfect example of how investing in small businesses enriches our entire community by expanding arts education and local collaboration.
