Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001. As we remember the lives lost that day, the City of Gretna also honors the first responders whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire us.

Did you know? More than 400 first responders gave their lives on September 11, including 343 FDNY firefighters, 37 Port Authority police officers and 23 NYPD officers. Many were climbing the stairs of the World Trade Center as thousands of others were making their way to safety. Today, we remember their sacrifice and take a moment to thank the firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMS crews who serve and protect the Gretna community every day.
