First Flight of Wyoming

On September 5, First Flight of Wyoming was dispatched by for a joint HASTY/MEDEVAC mission near the Chief Joseph Highway for an individual who was bucked off his horse and was severely injured. FFOW inserted 2 SAR and 2 med crew members about 0.75mi from the patient, who then hiked to the pt and rendered aid before carrying him back to the waiting aircraft. Further care was administered before FFOW transported the individual to an area Level 1 Trauma Center. We hope for a speedy recovery for this individual.

FFOW and multiple area search and rescue agencies in the area have a unique partnership called HASTY Teams where SAR Members receive specialized aircraft training so they can be inserted by the FFOW aircraft into SAR areas with their equipment significantly reducing rescue time and conserving energy for high risk rescues.

On Sunday, First Flight of Wyoming was called by Sheridan County Search and Rescue for treatment and transport of an individual with traumatic injuries. The patient was successfully transported, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
On a side note, meet the newest member of our team: Sean. A flight paramedic from Florida, here he is putting in work in the wilderness of Wyoming.

We at Buffalo EMS extend thanks to all who were involved in the monumental show of effort last night. The first responders of Johnson County and Wyoming united to tackle an incident unusual for our area. This being said, we are not able to disclose any information regarding the accident and patient care.

We thank the following but certainly do not limit ourselves limited to:

Johnson County volunteer firefighters, Johnson County sheriff's office, Buffalo police department, Johnson County dispatch, JCHC emergency room staff, First Flight of Wyoming, Wyoming Life Flight, responding EMS personnel, off-duty EMS assisting, and the Good Samaritans who stopped at scene.

It is the unity of the rural community that we love which made this all possible. We keep the victims and their families of the accident in our thoughts and prayers. From the bottoms of our hearts, thank you everyone!

Every month we do a different training topic. This month we reviewed massive hemorrhage. As the weather warms, our calls to respond for trauma increase significantly.

Did you know that massive bleeding is the Number 1 cause of preventable death in trauma. Learning how to stop bleeding is a basic skill than can and absolutely does save lives.

Another busy day in June. Started with a scene request from EMS, then an IFT to Billings, followed by an evening flight to Casper. While the city was asleep in Casper, the HEMS community was wide awake. We ran into our friends from Wyoming Life Flight and Denver Children's in the clear skies over Casper.
