📉 Five Years. Less Crime. A Safer Grover Beach.💙💛

The numbers tell a great story! Over the past five years, Grover Beach has seen significant decreases in reported crime:

🔹 Group A offenses (crimes against persons/property/society) down nearly 50% since 2021
🔹 Property crimes down 78% since 2021
🔹 Calls for service have declined, giving our officers more opportunities to focus on proactive policing and community engagement.

These results reflect the dedication of our officers, the support of our community, and the importance of working together to keep Grover Beach a great place to live, work, and play. 💙

We’re proud of the progress—and we’re not slowing down! Thank you, Grover Beach, for being part of the team. 👮‍♂️🤝

On October 10th, the Grover Beach Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sergeant Felix Rameriz said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

Grover Beach Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Empty Bowls was AWESOME!

Yesterday, Chief Munro and many volunteers helped fill “Empty Bowls” with hot soups from all over south county. For just $25, attendees, including some from GBPD, got to pick out a custom made bowl and fill it with their favorite soup. All proceeds benefited the 5 Cities Homeless Coalition. If you couldn’t make it this year, we look forward to seeing you next year!

We offer our condolences to the California Highway Patrol and the family of Officer Liles. ❤️

It is with profound sadness that the California Highway Patrol announces the line-of-duty death of Officer Brian Liles of the Visalia Area.

On September 28, 2026, at approximately 5:11 p.m., CHP Motorcycle Officer Liles was involved in an on-duty traffic crash on State Route 99, just north of State Route 190 in Tipton. He sustained critical injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officer Liles, 44, served the people of California for more than 16 years. After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2010, he was assigned to the San Jose Area and later served in the Hayward and Fresno Areas before transferring to the Visalia Area in 2019.

Officer Liles is survived by his wife, two children, his parents, and two sisters.

The CHP extends its deepest condolences to Officer Liles’ family, friends, loved ones, and all who served alongside him. His dedication to public service and commitment to protecting the people of California will not be forgotten.
