TCSO SPEED TRAILER REPORT: HIGHWAY 19 NORTHBOUND
We have another traffic report to share from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office speed trailer. This time, the trailer was monitoring northbound traffic on Highway 19, where the posted speed limit is 40 MPH.
The report covers September 30 through October 16, 2026, a period of 17 calendar days.
HERE’S WHAT THE DATA SHOWED:
• Total vehicles recorded: 112,105
• Average speed: 36.4 MPH
• Posted speed limit: 40 MPH
• 21,942 vehicles, approximately 19.6%, were traveling over 40 MPH.
• 1,284 vehicles were traveling 51 MPH or faster.
• 275 vehicles were recorded at 56 MPH or faster.
• The highest speed range recorded was 71–75 MPH.
WHEN WAS TRAFFIC THE HEAVIEST?
The busiest time was between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, with 7,148 vehicles recorded during that hour over the reporting period.
Traffic generally increased around 6:00 AM and remained heavy throughout the day and into the early evening.
WHAT DOES THIS TELL US?
The numbers show that approximately 80% of the vehicles were traveling at or below the posted 40 MPH speed limit.
While most drivers were staying within the speed limit, we still had more than 21,000 vehicles recorded above it, with some traveling considerably faster.
This is the kind of information we’re looking for when we receive complaints about speeding. It allows us to see how much traffic is using a particular road, what speeds vehicles are traveling, and what times of day we may need to concentrate enforcement.
Remember, our speed trailer does not issue tickets, take pictures of license plates, or collect driver or vehicle information. It simply provides traffic statistics that help us determine where enforcement may be needed.
ARE YOU HAVING A SPEEDING PROBLEM ON YOUR ROAD?
Call TCSO Dispatch at 936-642-1424 and let us know the location and approximate time of day you’re seeing the problem.
We’ll continue moving the trailer around Trinity County and sharing the results so everyone can see what the traffic is actually doing.
Slow down, pay attention, and help us keep Trinity County roads safe.

The highest hourly average speed was 37.6 MPH during the 4:00–5:00 AM hour. Hourly average speeds remained below the 40 MPH posted limit throughout the report.
3. Operational Interpretation
Traffic volume: The trailer recorded 112,105 northbound vehicle passages over the 17-calendar-day reporting window, an average of approximately 6,594 per calendar day.
Speed patterns: Most recorded traffic was at or below the posted limit, although nearly one in five vehicles was recorded above 40 MPH. A much smaller share was 11 MPH or more above the limit.
Enforcement planning: The hourly counts and speed categories help identify traffic patterns and support decisions about where and when additional monitoring or deputy enforcement may be appropriate. High traffic volume by itself does not establish speeding.
Limitations: The supplied report aggregates speeds into five-MPH categories and clock-hour totals. It does not establish individual vehicle identities, crash risk, or daily trends; the busiest hour for traffic volume is not necessarily the hour with the highest number of speed violations.
4. Public Information and Reporting
The speed trailer does not issue citations or provide the Sheriff’s Office with driver, vehicle, or license plate identifying information for ticketing. It provides aggregate traffic statistics to help assess citizen complaints and guide traffic enforcement planning.
Residents reporting ongoing speeding concerns should contact TCSO Dispatch at 936-642-1424 and provide the road, specific location, and approximate times the problem occurs.
Conclusion
The northbound Highway 19 report shows an overall average speed of 36.4 MPH against a posted 40 MPH limit. Most recorded traffic was at or below the limit, while 21,942 vehicle passages were in speed categories above 40 MPH. The data provides an objective basis for evaluating local speeding complaints and planning targeted enforcement where warranted.
