In partnership with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office, the decision has been made to block the roads across the highway from the Gueydan Duck Festival grounds to prevent any parking and people crossing the highway on foot. Garland Street from LA Hwy 14 to 13th St along with Canal Street will be closed to traffic except for those residents who live in the closed area. The practice field at the corner of Garland and Canal will not be used as a parking lot. Anyone caught going around barricades and parked inside the closed areas will be cited and or towed. We hope everyone has safe and enjoyable weekend at the festival!

Public Notice

Due to recent Facebook posts concerning Assistant Chief Matt Touchet, the Gueydan Police Department has become aware of multiple threatening comments made on posts that were shared.

One comment, posted under the profile name “Frank Rizo,” stated that someone should “burn his house down.” Through investigation, officers determined that the profile was associated with Mr. Joshua Deperrodil.

A warrant was obtained for Mr. Deperrodil for Threatening a Public Official under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:122.2.

Officers with the Gueydan Police Department located Mr. Deperrodil and attempted to take him into custody. Mr. Deperrodil was on the roof of a residence and refused multiple commands to come down. During the incident, he also made additional threatening comments concerning officers and their employment.

Mr. Deperrodil was taken into custody and transported to the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center, where he was booked on two counts of Threatening a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

The Gueydan Police Department takes threats against public officials and law enforcement officers very seriously. Threatening statements made online are not taken lightly and will be investigated and handled accordingly.

We encourage everyone to think before posting.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
