Good morning!

We are getting to that time of year where our residents should start preparing their homes and properties for winter!

- Have your wood and pellet stoves serviced and swept.

- Check batteries and test your smoke detectors and CO2 alarms.

- Start stocking up on canned and dry goods in case you get snowed in for a few days

- Check your backup power and heat sources in case of power outages.

- Close outside vents if possible and make sure you have spigot covers for any exterior spigots. This also includes yardhydrants!

- Check weather stripping on doors and assess windows for frame cracks that need to be sealed and a way to avoid heat loss out of windows.

- Go through your vehicles and make sure your supplies are still good or if you are missing anything.

The aspen leaves are starting to fall off the trees, it won’t be long before the snow flurries fly!

We all enjoy watching movies or shows in comfortable places, however charging electronics on soft services can be a hazard because they can get too hot.
Make sure when charging electronics they are on hard, non flammable surfaces!

Fire Safety isn't just Stop, Drop and Roll anymore. With more technology being created, fire safety is now encompassing charging components!

Portable chargers, specifically knock off brand chargers, lack the proper insulation, internal shut off fuses and overcurrent protection.

When these safety features are not in place, it can cause the cord to feed back into your residential electrical system as well as damaging your phone, iPad, or other electronic devices.

It's important to check your devices when they are charging. If it feels hot, STOP using the charger and let both the cord and electronic device cool down before use and or disposal of the charging cord.

Another prescribed burn is planned on the north side of Waugh Mountain, approximately 26 miles northwest of Cañon City, 20 miles northeast of Salida, and two miles south of Fremont County Road 2. In Park County, there are 3 statuses that are used when evacuations could possibly be ordered. Ready, Set and Go.

This is something that you can start practicing now, time yourselves and your family on these steps so that you know when an incident happens, you will know just how long and at what phases you should be planning for before they happen.

Ready (Green) – start getting important papers, clothes, cell phones and chargers, pets, pet food and carriers, medications and vehicles ready to leave. Assess evacuation routes away from the incident and make a communication/meet up game plan with any family or friends that aren’t in the area or in case you get split up.

Set (Yellow) – This means that the incident is growing and incident leaders are already looking at evacuating areas that will be greatly impacted by the incident. All the important things that you collected during Ready Status should be in your vehicle that you are evacuating with. SET status is also when livestock should be evacuated. We currently do not have resources to help with evacuations of livestock at the last minute when evacuation orders are issued.

Go (Red) - EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY. Get in your vehicle, follow instructions from law enforcement and fire personnel and use designated evacuation routes that are sent out by emergency evacuation notifications.
