Rope Rescue Incident
On Thursday, July 2, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., Guilderland Center Fire Department was dispatched to Frenchs Hollow in Guilderland Center following a request for assistance from the Guilderland Police Department and Guilderland EMS for an injured patient located on the upper cliff.
Upon arrival, rescue personnel assessed the situation and determined a rope rescue was required to remove the patient. A rescue swimmer waded to the patient, provided aid and relocated the patient to the bank's edge as a technical rope rescue system was established to safely access, package, and remove the patient from the steep terrain. The operation required extensive coordination and teamwork among multiple agencies to ensure the safe and efficient extrication of the patient.
We would like to recognize and thank the members of the Altamont Fire Department and Slingerlands Fire Department for their assistance with rigging operations and patient removal. We also extend our appreciation to the Albany County Sheriff's Office for their assistance during the patient extraction and removal process.
This incident highlights the importance of interagency cooperation and the dedication of our emergency responders, who train extensively to handle complex rescue situations safely and effectively.
We would like to thank all personnel involved for their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to serving our communities.
