🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE: PLEASE DO NOT BURN STORM DEBRIS 🚨

🌳🔥 In the aftermath of Hurricane Isaias, the City of Gulf Breeze Fire Rescue is asking all residents to refrain from burning yard debris, including fallen branches, leaves, and other vegetation.

While cleaning up after the storm, please remember that burning debris can create dangerous conditions, including the risk of fires spreading to nearby homes, properties, and wooded areas.

⚠️ Help Keep Our Community Safe!
- 🚫 Do not burn fallen limbs, branches, leaves, or other storm debris.
- 🌳 Collect and properly stage yard debris for disposal.
- 🚒 Keep roadways, sidewalks, fire hydrants, and emergency access routes clear.
- ❤️ Help protect your neighbors and our first responders by avoiding unnecessary fire hazards.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation as our community continues to recover from Hurricane Isaias.

Stay safe, Gulf Breeze! 💙

When enjoying our local parks, trails, and outdoor spaces, remember to look up and stay aware of your surroundings. Avoid standing, walking, or playing beneath damaged trees or hanging branches.

🌲 Stay aware, stay safe, and help keep our community protected!

It is with heavy hearts that we remember James—a man whose life was defined by compassion, service, and an unwavering commitment to others.

James dedicated himself to caring for those in need, approaching every patient with empathy, professionalism, and genuine kindness. Beyond the care he provided, he was a mentor who freely shared his knowledge, encouraged those around him, and helped shape the next generation of EMS and medical professionals. His influence reached far beyond the bedside, touching lives through medicine, aviation, education, and the friendships he built throughout the Florida Panhandle.

Those who had the privilege of working alongside James knew him not only for his skill, but for his character. He had a way of making people feel valued, supported, and capable, leaving a lasting impression on coworkers, students, and the countless patients and families he served.

While our hearts are heavy with his loss, we are thankful for the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of compassion, integrity, humility, and selfless service. The impact James made on our department, our profession, and our community will continue to be felt for years to come.

Please join us in keeping James' family, friends, coworkers, and everyone whose life he touched in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, James. Thank you for your dedication, your friendship, and the countless lives you changed. You will never be forgotten.

☀️🌡️ Weather Safety: Heat Advisory Tips 🌡️☀️

High temperatures and humidity can quickly become dangerous. Whether you're working outside, enjoying the outdoors, or simply running errands, taking a few simple precautions can help prevent heat-related illnesses.

💧 Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day—even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, which can contribute to dehydration.

🧢 Dress for the Heat
Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun.

❄️ Stay Cool
Spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible. If you don't have air conditioning, visit a public cooling center, library, or other indoor public space.

🚗 Never Leave Children or Pets in a Vehicle
Temperatures inside a parked car can become deadly within minutes—even with the windows cracked.

👵👶 Check on Family, Friends, and Neighbors
Older adults, young children, and those with medical conditions are at greater risk for heat-related illnesses. A quick phone call or visit could make all the difference.

🏃 Limit Outdoor Activity
If you must work or exercise outside, try to do so during the early morning or evening hours. Take frequent breaks in the shade and drink water often.

⚠️ Know the Warning Signs
Heat exhaustion may include:
• Heavy sweating
• Weakness or dizziness
• Nausea
• Cool, clammy skin

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Signs include:
• High body temperature
• Confusion
• Hot, dry skin
• Loss of consciousness

🚑 Call 911 immediately if you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke.

Stay weather aware, monitor local forecasts, and take extra precautions during periods of extreme heat. Together, we can help keep our community safe all summer long!

⚠️ Carbon Monoxide Detectors Save Lives ⚠️

Carbon monoxide (CO) is often called the "silent killer" because it is an invisible, odorless, and colorless gas. It can build up in your home without warning from fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces, generators, grills, or vehicles left running in an attached garage.

🚨 Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning:
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Weakness or fatigue
• Nausea or vomiting
• Confusion
• Loss of consciousness

If multiple people in your home suddenly feel sick at the same time, leave the home immediately, call 911, and do not re-enter until emergency responders say it is safe.

📍 Carbon Monoxide Detector Installation Guidelines

✅ Install a CO detector:
• On every level of your home.
• Outside each sleeping area so the alarm can wake you if CO is detected.
• In homes with an attached garage, install one near the entrance from the garage into the home.
• Follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper mounting height. Most modern detectors can be installed on either the wall or ceiling.

❌ Avoid installing detectors:
• Inside garages.
• Directly above or beside fuel-burning appliances (maintain the distance recommended by the manufacturer).
• Near bathrooms or areas with excessive humidity.
• In direct sunlight or near heating and cooling vents.
• Behind curtains, furniture, or other obstructions that could block airflow.

🔋 Keep Your Detector Ready
• Test your detector every month.
• Replace batteries at least once a year (unless it has a sealed 10-year battery).
• Replace the entire detector when it reaches the manufacturer's recommended replacement date (typically 7–10 years).

🏡 A properly installed carbon monoxide detector provides an early warning that can give you and your family the time needed to escape safely. Take a few minutes today to make sure your home is protected.

The Gulf Breeze Fire Department encourages every home to have working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to help keep your family safe.
