Governor Kay Ivey today halted enforcement on off-road diesel fuel for 120 days, providing much-needed relief for Alabama farmers and timber haulers.
Federation leadership appreciates Ivey and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Hal Taylor easing restrictions on dyed fuel during harvest season.
โ€œRecord-high diesel fuel is putting a strain on Alabamaโ€™s agricultural and forestry industries at a time when production costs are already high and commodity and timber prices are low," said Federation President Jimmy Parnell. "This flexibility is welcomed help during our membersโ€™ time of need.โ€
Ivey also instructed the Alabama Department of Revenue to request penalty relief from the Internal Revenue Service.
โ€œAs we are in the beginning of peak harvest season in Alabama, I am committed to doing what we can to support our stateโ€™s farmers and their families,โ€ said Ivey. โ€œWhen we can responsibly provide relief, I am all for it, and this is a measured, doable and commonsense action to help out Alabamaโ€™s agricultural and timber communities.โ€
