Today, the Merced County Integrated Traffic Enforcement (CITE) Team conducted a traffic enforcement detail in the City of Gustine.
We are grateful to our allied agencies who joined us today, including the California Highway Patrol, Merced Police Department, Los Banos Police Department, Dos Palos Police Department, and Atwater Police Department. Together, officers issued more than 60 citations throughout the detail.
Before officers headed out this morning, Gustine Police Motorcycle Officer Eddie Gonzales dedicated today’s ride and enforcement detail to California Highway Patrol Motor Officer Brian Liles, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on Monday.
Today, we rode in his honor and in remembrance of his service and sacrifice.
We understand that traffic enforcement details can sometimes be frustrating for drivers. However, the purpose of traffic enforcement goes beyond issuing citations. Our goal is to identify and correct driving behaviors that contribute to traffic collisions, educate motorists about California vehicle laws, and ultimately make our roads safer for everyone.
A citation may last a moment. The lesson behind it could prevent a collision and save a life.
We also want to thank everyone in the community who gave our officers a wave, a high-five, or stopped to say hello today. We even had the opportunity to hand out a few stickers from the participating agencies to some of our community members who asked.
Thank you to our allied agencies and to the Gustine community for helping us make today’s detail a successful one.
Drive safely, Gustine.
