HEADS UP

We have several locations where water has gone over the road in the northern and northeastern portion of the county. Mainly along the Middle River. Please use caution as we work to close these roads and wait for the water to go down. Then we can begin the work to get those locations repaired. Do not drive through water.

There aren’t enough ways to say thank you to everyone who assisted yesterday - from our customers who responded immediately to our request for conservation, our vendors who showed up to help first thing in the morning and stayed until we were operational and our employees who worked tirelessly from the early morning hours to get everything back online and operating.

At this time, the water treatment plant is in the early stages of being operational. We are slowly beginning to treat water to replace the stored water that has been used up today.

We ask that our customers continue to conserve water by not consuming for non essential purposes (car washing, garden, yard or flower watering). Water can be used for essential purposes such as cooking, bathing, and laundry. We do ask that you keep showers/baths or laundry loads to a reasonable limit.

While things can change in the blink of an eye as we found out early this morning, if all goes well, we hope that our water reserves will be restored over the remainder of the week and life will return to normal.

Severe weather is possible this afternoon to evening over much of central Iowa as a boundary tracks across the state. Damaging winds and heavy rain are the primary hazards of concern, with a lower risk for hail and/or a few tornadoes. Stay weather aware today, and have multiple ways to receive warnings, should any be issued!

In addition to the threat for flooding, there is a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather across much of Iowa tonight. Gusty winds and heavy rain are the prominent threats. We could still see some hail (around 1" in diameter) and a tornado or two with storms today.

Rainfall totals of 2–4 inches are anticipated, with locally higher amounts possible, leading to a risk of scattered flash flooding and urban ponding. A second round of heavy rain and storms is expected late Friday. Motorists are reminded to never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown!
