This afternoon, Bergen County, NJ and the Division of Veterans Services held a ceremony in honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day.

Together, we paid tribute to the brave Americans who are still missing or unaccounted for, and the families who continue to carry their legacy. We also had the honor of recognizing First Lieutenant William Cornelius Ryan Jr., a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve officer from Bogota, who was missing in action in Laos for nearly five decades before his remains were identified and returned home.

We extend a special thank you to Boost Mobile and Bite Food & Coffee Co. (Hackensack) for donating refreshments for today's event. Thank you, as well, to our Division of Veterans Services staff for all that they do to support our veterans and their families in Bergen County.

As a nation, we cannot rest until all our service members are home and accounted for. Thank you to the brave men and women who have served our country. Our POW/MIAs are not forgotten.

Today, we proudly recognize the 79th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force. Bergen County honors the brave men and women of the Air Force for their service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to protecting our nation. Thank you to all who have served.

This anniversary holds special meaning as it coincides with POW/MIA Recognition Day—a solemn reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by those who answer the call to serve.

Today, and every day, we honor our service members and continue to pray for the safe return of all American service members.

Every third Friday in September, we recognize POW/MIA Day. It is a day to remember all those who have been taken prisoner of war or gone missing in action while serving our country.

While we may never understand their pain, we hold them and their loved ones in our hearts. We will not rest until every American is returned home and their families get the answers they deserve.

May we all reflect on this solemn day and never forget the sacrifices of our service members.
