π HELP US HELP YOU! π
π¨ A LITTLE PATIENCE CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE! π¨
When you see emergency lights and hear sirens approaching, please remember that getting an emergency vehicle through traffic isn't always as easy as it looks!
Busy roads, intersections, stopped traffic, parked vehicles, and limited space can make it challenging for our firefighters and other emergency responders to reach an emergency safely and efficiently. Every situation is different, and our members must constantly assess traffic conditions and the safest route to the scene.
Here's how you can help when you encounter an emergency vehicle:
π Stay calm and alert. Pay attention to your surroundings and watch for emergency lights and sirens.
π Move over safely. When you can do so safely, move to the right and stop to allow emergency vehicles to pass. Avoid sudden movements that could create another hazard.
π Keep intersections clear. Never block an intersection, and be prepared to yield when it is safe to do so.
π Don't follow too closely. Give emergency vehicles plenty of space, and never follow them through traffic to get around congestion.
π Be patient. A few extra seconds of caution can help prevent an accident and allow our crews to continue toward their destination safely.
β€οΈ Remember, we're your neighbors. The men and women of the Hagaman Fire Department are volunteers who leave their families, jobs, and daily responsibilities to respond when our community needs us. We understand that traffic delays can be frustrating, but when emergency vehicles are trying to reach an incident, everyone's cooperation matters.
Whether we're responding to a fire, a motor vehicle accident, or another emergency, our goal is to arrive safely and get to work helping those in need.
π Thank you to the residents and motorists of Hagaman and the Town of Amsterdam for your patience, understanding, and continued support!
