25 years ago today, three firefighters were digging through the rubble of the collapsed towers in the early evening when one of them spotted an American flag flying from a yacht docked in the Hudson River.
Dan McWilliams, George Johnson, and Billy Eisengrein cut the flagpole from the yacht and raised that flag as high as they could above the ruins of the World Trade Center.
That image became one of the many powerful symbols of courage, unity, and hope in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.
If you notice the 9/11 commemorative flag at the Hailey Station flying at full mast today, it is to honor that moment — and to remember the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the strength shown by so many in the days that followed.
Never Forget. 🇺🇸
