🚶 OCTOBER IS PEDESTRIAN SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH 🚶‍♀️

As October continues, the Haledon Police Department reminds everyone that pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility, every day of the year.

🚶 Walking? Use sidewalks and marked crosswalks, look before crossing, and stay alert. Make sure drivers have stopped before entering the roadway.

🚗 Driving? Slow down, put distractions away, and watch carefully for pedestrians, especially near schools, intersections, and crosswalks.

Together, we can help make Haledon’s streets safer for everyone. 💙

Coffee with a Cop was a success! ☕🚔

This morning, members of the Haledon Police Department had the opportunity to share coffee, conversation, and plenty of smiles with residents, seniors, local business owners, and friends at the Haledon Diner located at 383 Belmont Avenue.

We were also pleased to welcome Mayor Michael Johnson, former Mayor Ken Pengitore, and many others who stopped by to spend time with our officers and strengthen the relationships that make Haledon such a special community.

A very special shout-out and sincere thank you to Haledon P.B.A. Local 349 President Omar Zadeh and the fine women and men of Haledon P.B.A. Local 349 for sponsoring this initiative.

Your Haledon Police Department encourages everyone to make the part of their nightly routine.

Before calling it a night:

🔒 Lock your vehicle doors, garages, sheds, doors, and windows.

🎒 Remove valuables from your vehicle or secure them out of sight.

💡 Turn on exterior lighting, security cameras, and alarm systems.

🔑 Secure your vehicle key fobs inside your home and away from your vehicle.

👀 Stay alert and report suspicious activity.

Unlocked vehicles continue to provide an easy opportunity for theft. Taking a few minutes each evening can help protect your property and our community.

If you see suspicious activity, contact the Haledon Police Department at 973-790-4444. For emergencies, you may also call 9-1-1.

🚔 Traffic Tip Tuesday 🚔

Meet Officer Manuel Diaz of the Haledon Police Department's Community and Youth Services Division!

This week, Officer Diaz is reminding motorists about something we all learned when we first started driving: STOP means STOP! 🛑

Under N.J.S.A. 39:4-144, motorists approaching a stop sign must bring their vehicle to a complete stop within five feet of the nearest crosswalk or marked stop line before entering the intersection. After stopping, drivers must yield to traffic that is close enough to create an immediate hazard.

A rolling stop is not a complete stop.

Always remember to:

🛑 Come to a complete stop.
👀 Look carefully for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
🚸 Keep crosswalks clear and watch for people crossing.
🚗 Proceed only when it is safe to do so.

Failure to observe a stop or yield sign is also a two (2) point motor vehicle violation in New Jersey.

Weekend Nor’easter Weather Advisory

Prepare for Strong Winds and Heavy Rain

The Haledon Office of Emergency Management is monitoring a nor’easter expected to affect the area through Monday, September 28, 2026.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts of 45–55 mph are possible through early Sunday, with 1.5–3.5 inches of rain forecast regionally through Monday. Downed tree limbs, power outages, and flooding in areas with poor drainage are possible.

Residents should secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and other loose items; charge phones and essential devices; and use caution when traveling. Never drive through floodwater and stay away from downed wires.
