Hōlei (Ochrosia compta), a native Hawaiian plant, is a treasured part of the natural heritage found at Waimea Valley. We are honored to care for these plants and support native forest restoration through the dedicated work of our conservation team.

Through native reforestation, we help care for the ʻāina and preserve Hawaiʻi’s unique ecosystems for future generations.

Kilo is the practice of observing the world around us with intention. Throughout Waimea Valley, there is always something to notice, from the changing patterns of leaves and the movement of wai to the birds, plants, and subtle shifts in the environment.

Through kilo, we learn to look closer, recognize patterns, and understand the relationships that connect all living things. It reminds us that learning from ʻāina begins with taking the time to observe.

As you explore Waimea Valley, what will you take a moment to kilo?

ʻOkakopa has a way of slowing Waimea Valley down. Rain settles on the leaves, mist rests along the mauka, and water moves through the ʻāina once again.

There is mana in these quiet moments, and a reminder of our kuleana to mālama this place. Waimea Valley, held with aloha ʻāina through every season.

Waimea Valley is more than a place. It is an ʻahupuaʻa, where the uplands meet the sea and the resources of the land sustain life.

From the ridges of Keanaloa, Kalāheʻe, and Kaluahole to the streams of Kamanaui, Kaiwikoʻele, and Elehaha, wai moves through the valley as wai ola, water of life.

To know Waimea is to recognize the relationship between the land, its waters, and the people who care for it.

May we continue to listen, learn, and mālama this wahi pana with aloha ʻāina.
