Our online property tax payments website is back in service. Please go to halifaxnctax.com and click the "Pay Your Taxes" quick link.

All 2026 tax bills payments made prior to midnight tonight (August 31) receive the 2% discount!

We are currently experiencing an outage for our online property tax payments. Our software company's support team is currently working on the problem but unfortunately they have not provided an estimated time when the service will be restored. Please call our office at (252) 583-2121 option 1 if you have any questions (office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday). Cash payments can be made in person at the Tax Collector's Office at 3 South King Street in Halifax (the former bank building). Checks or money orders can be mailed to PO Box 68, Halifax NC 27839. Please be sure to mail your payments today or tomorrow to ensure that the USPS postmark is applied prior to September 1 in order to receive the discount.

Do you need a short-term payment agreement to pay your 2026 property taxes? If so, the time to contact the Tax Collector's Office is NOW! See below for more information about our payment agreement policy or call (252) 583-2121 and select option 1 to speak to a member of the Collections staff.

- New payment agreement "window" is open from July 1, 2026 to January 5, 2027 ONLY. New agreements will be DENIED once the bills are DELINQUENT.
- Agreements made before July 1, 2026 in good standing are VALID.
- Unpaid 2026 real property balances as of February 28, 2027 will be ADVERTISED in mid-March.
- Your agreement can include prior year taxes but the CURRENT 2026 bill must be paid first.
- Balances MUST be paid by March 31, 2027. Extensions past March 31 must be approved by the Tax Collector.
- Making random payments does not mean you have a payment agreement. Use the COUPONS included with your bill or CONTACT US at (252) 583-2121 option 1.

The next key date for Halifax County NC property taxes is just a few days from now. The 2% discount period ends Monday, August 31. Payments can be made at our 3 South King Street, Halifax office 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also call our Collections staff at (252) 583-2121 option 1 to make a payment or go to halifaxnctax.com & click on the "Pay Your Taxes" link (all electronic payments are subject to a processing fee).

Mailed checks or money orders are also accepted but MUST be postmarked no later than August 31. Don't wait until the last day to mail your payment because the local post office does not apply postmarks. The postmarks are applied at the regional USPS centers & that is usually a day or two later!
