Dear Friends & Community,

It's hard to believe that it's been over a month since we last greeted our patrons through the doors of the South Boston Public Library!

A lot has happened since August 24th, and a lot more is still to come. Right now, we are doing what many of you are doing: waiting.

Our staff have worked steadily over the past six weeks to do our part to open. We have cleaned every single book, dvd, piece of furniture, and computer. Every shelf has been covered with tarps and dropcloths so that when the ducts are finally cleaned we will have not lost all of our progress.

Unfortunately, we are still waiting on the professional cleaners to take over the last of the responsibilities. We have no updates as of yet on when that work will be completed and we can finally open.

While we wait, we would like to remind everyone that the Halifax Public Library is still open, and we are happy to meet all of your library needs. You'll even see some familiar faces from South Boston!

We would also like to thank Dollar General and Lowe's for their generous donations! Dollar General donated 10 cases of cleaning materials and Lowe's provided us with all of the tarps, dropcloths, and duct tape. We have been very fortunate to have a community that steps in to help when we most need it!

If there’s one silver lining to having to close our South Boston branch because of the fire, it’s that we get to work with our SoBo crew at Halifax!
Thanks to Marcus and Jackie for holding down the fort at Halifax today! Their smiling faces lit up the whole library!

Come to the Halifax library today and enjoy art time with Lexi.

Hello, Friends!

It's been a whirlwind for us at the library! We are still waiting to hear from the cleaning crew about a possible opening date. It's been hard to be in a holding pattern without much to update on.

That doesn't mean we haven't been busy! Our staff is optimistic and have been cleaning the books and shelves at the South Boston Public Library so that we can open faster once the cleaning crew does their thing.

Staff have also been busy working on projects at the Halifax Public Library! We have completely revamped our Teen Space at Halifax. It now offers a little more privacy to get homework done or just relax. We will be setting up some more furniture in the future as well. So be sure to watch this space!

We also have to give a great, big shout out to Dollar General for donating ten cases of Clorox wipes to help the South Boston Public Library staff clean the books, shelves, and furniture. We couldn't do what we do without the support of our amazing community, and we hope to be back up and running as soon as possible!
