At approximately 10:25 this morning, Hampton Fire Alarm received a report of a fire in a trash compactor at the DPW facility.

Responding companies found fire in the compactor and were able to isolate and extinguish the fire. Crews remained on scene for an extended period to complete extinguishment and cleanup.

A special thank you to our neighbors at North Hampton Fire & Rescue and Seabrook NH Fire Department for providing station coverage while Hampton companies were committed to the incident.

We aren’t ones for the spotlight, but we certainly appreciate the support and kind words. 🇺🇸

When the flags needed some attention after the Nor’easter, we were happy to help get things back in order and make sure Old Glory was flying high once again.

It’s always an honor to lend a hand to our community. We’re glad we could help! ❤️🇺🇸

The Hampton Police Department is advising residents, visitors and motorists to plan for road closures and significant traffic impacts Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, as runners take to the streets for the Rockfest Half Marathon and 5K Road Race.

The event will bring increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic to the Beach District and North Shore areas of Hampton. Due to the size of the event and number of participants, several roads will be closed or restricted for extended periods to provide a safe route for runners, spectators and motorists.

Motorists should expect the following closures and traffic impacts:

Beach District | 7:40-9:15 a.m.

• Route 101 eastbound at Landing Road will be closed.
• Route 1A at the south side of the Hampton Harbor Bridge will be closed to northbound traffic.
• Ocean Boulevard from the Hampton Harbor Bridge north to Highland Avenue will be closed.
• Southbound traffic on Ocean Boulevard from the North Shore area will be detoured west onto Church Street/Route 101 westbound.

North Shore Area | 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

• 8-11 a.m.: Ocean Boulevard northbound from Highland Avenue to High Street will be closed to motor vehicle traffic.
• 8:20-11 a.m.: The westbound lane of High Street from Ocean Boulevard to Mace Road will be closed.
• 8:30-11:30 a.m.: The westbound lane of Mace Road from High Street to Mill Road will be closed to motor vehicle traffic.
• 8:30-11:30 a.m.: The northbound lane of Mill Road from Mace Road to Barbour Road will be closed.
• 9-11:30 a.m.: Barbour Road, Little River Road and Woodland Road will experience delays. Officers assigned to traffic details will allow motor vehicle traffic through when it is safe to do so.
• 9-11:30 a.m.: Great Gate, Juniper Lane and Huckleberry Lane will remain open to local traffic, but runners will be sharing the roadway.
• 9-11:30 a.m.: The northbound lane of Ocean Boulevard from Cusack Lane to Huckleberry Lane will remain open. Motorists should expect delays and use caution as runners travel south toward the finish line on Ocean Boulevard.

Runners are encouraged to arrive in the Beach District no later than 7:30 a.m. to allow enough time to find parking. Access to the Beach District will close at 7:45 a.m.

Residents should also plan ahead, as vehicles will not be able to leave the Beach District between 7:45 and 10 a.m.

Temporary sign boards have been placed at various locations throughout Hampton, and residents living along areas affected by the race have been provided additional information.

Hampton police officers will be stationed at traffic posts throughout the course to help manage traffic and maintain the safety of runners, spectators and motorists.

Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time, seek alternate routes when possible and follow the directions of officers working along the race route.

Additional race information is available through the Hampton Rockfest at www.hamptonrockfest.com. Question regarding road closures may be directed to [email protected]

Please join us in celebrating our own Dylan Drake, the 2026 Atlantic Chapter of APCO Technologist of the Year! 🎉

Public safety communications requires constant attention, technical expertise, problem-solving, and a commitment to keeping critical systems reliable and resilient. The Town of Hampton, New Hampshire is incredibly well served by our amazing IT team, led by Dylan.

Dylan has taken on increasingly complex challenges, including playing a critical role in Hampton’s comprehensive public safety radio system upgrade. His willingness to learn, collaborate, and understand the unique needs of those working in emergency operations has helped strengthen communications for Fire Rescue, Police, Public Works, and our communications centers.

Dylan’s work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every time a firefighter, police officer, dispatcher, or other public safety professional relies on technology to work when it matters most. Dylan and his team understand that technology is a critical part of the public safety mission. Congratulations, Dylan! 👏
