State law requires life jackets on every watercraft, whether it’s a motorized boat, jet ski, kayak, canoe, or even a paddleboard. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, 87% of drowning victims who died from a boating accident were not wearing their life jackets. The best way to be “saved by the jacket” is to wear it at all times, no matter your level of swimming or boating expertise. Birth records for 1983 have now been added to Iowa's statewide vital records database.

If you were born in 1983 or later, you can obtain a certified copy of your Iowa birth certificate from any Iowa County Recorder's Office.

If you were born in 1982 or earlier, you'll still need to obtain your birth certificate from the county where your birth occurred.
