Being an active helper has been something I have been taught from my late father Abraham Refai. My father was from the first Yemenis to have settled in the Hamtramck/Detroit area which he was one of the founders of one of the largest Mosques in America, Muath bin Jabil on Miller Street. My father also have inspired me to join many organizations which he was apart of that helped many in the community. I have participated in many programs/events within the city, community and many organizations in the city and in the metropolitan area. I have been attending city council meeting since early age. I’m running for city council because I believe that I am able to make a change that benefits the city of Hamtramck and it’s citizens. I will be working tirelessly with the other city council members and other city officials to the best of my ability to achieve what’s best for the city. I’m running for City Council to create a long-term plan for city. A plan that promotes sustainable economic development, strong parks, and a sense of identity. I’m running for City Council to work on core infrastructure needs. I will fight every day to take care of our streets and sidewalks. Access to safe travel for cars, bikes, wheelchairs, and strollers, connect us all to opportunities, and to each other. community engagement, making sure people vote and understand what their government is doing.
