Quincy Mine A premier destination that takes you back in time to Michigan's copper mining era. Plan your visit today!
(2)

The Quincy Mine Hoist Association preserves and interprets the history, landscapes, buildings, and industrial work experiences of the Quincy Mining Company, educating people about Michigan’s significant copper mining heritage. The Quincy Mine serves as a critical gateway into the Copper Country’s rich heritage. Utilizing its unique historical resources–its historic mining location, buildings, equipment and underground mine–as well as high-quality interpretive tours, exhibits and programming, the Quincy Mine site provides an engaging and informative experience, educating visitors about the rich cultural legacy of Michigan's copper mining era. We educate the public by conducting guided tours of several important surface buildings and of the interior of the mine, and by offering special tours for schools and other groups. The Quincy Mine Hoist Association is a not-for-profit, self-supporting 501(c)3 organization.

⚒️Mine Tours Today!⚒️

The tours run 2 1/4 hours long and dive into the history of Quincy and what happened here in the Copper Country. The first part of the tour starts in the 1918 Hoist House that holds the Worlds Largest Steam Hoist ever built- the Nordberg Steam Hoist. You’ll learn all about the rise and fall of the company along with the changes in technology. After that you’ll take a cogwheel tram down the hill to the adit where you’ll make a 2,000 ft walk into the mine at a whopping 43 degrees Fahrenheit and go to some of the oldest workings of the mine.

Tonights lighting of the shaft house is in memory of Judy Albee, who was our sister in Alpha Delta Kappa for 38 years.
In our organization of women educators, Judy was a leader for educational excellence. She set
an example of lifelong learning, and her enthusiasm for the Keweenaw National Park and
Copper Country history was contagious. She volunteered at the Quincy Mine and introduced us to the lighting dedication program. It is now our tradition to light the shaft house to remember
those we miss and to celebrate important events.
As a friend, colleague and sister, we could count on Judy to help and encourage us. As our
chaplain, her readings seemed to relate to each of us, the challenges we were facing, and the
significance of what we accomplished. She reminded us to always celebrate the chance to teach.
Judy loved being part of Alpha Delta Kappa, and on our Founders Day we celebrate how she
touched our lives and the lives of so many children.
