Hannibal Free Public Library Announces Temporary Closure for Network Rewiring
For Immediate Release:
Hannibal Free Public Library will be closed to the public Monday, October 19 through Wednesday, October 21, 2026, while the Library undergoes a significant network rewiring and infrastructure improvement project.
During the project, the Library’s network, internet, and telephone systems will be unavailable, preventing normal library operations and public services. The temporary closure will allow contractors and Library technology staff to complete the work safely and efficiently while minimizing disruption to patrons.
This important infrastructure project is made possible in part through funding provided by the federal E-Rate program, which helps eligible libraries and schools obtain affordable telecommunications and internet connectivity and supports improvements to the infrastructure needed to provide those services.
The network rewiring project is an important investment in the Library’s infrastructure and will help ensure that Hannibal Free Public Library can continue to safely and reliably support the technology, connectivity, and services our community depends on.
The Library is expected to reopen for normal operations on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
Patrons are encouraged to plan ahead for the closure. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we complete these necessary improvements.
Updates regarding the project or any changes to the reopening schedule will be shared through the Library’s usual communication channels. See less

🎬Today is a great day to watch a movie at the library! Bring your sack lunch and enjoy a popular movie with us.
🍿Brown Bag & A Movie begins at 11:30 a.m.
Due to licensing restrictions, we cannot share the name of the film here, but we can give you another hint.
🎃Yesterday's hint: This movie is a sequel to a very popular movie from the 80s. Don't say it 3 times, or you will invite a trouble-making guest in a black and white striped suit!
🎃Today's hint: This movie stars Michael Keaton, not as a caped crusader, but as a devious Netherworld dweller with some pretty wild hair.

The Library attempts to make its services as barrier free as possible. Requests for Accommodation are addressed quickly, often within the week they are made. To request accommodation or to discuss a special need, please contact Caitlin Greathouse at 221-0222, or at [email protected]

Our popular adult program, Brown Bag & A Movie, is tomorrow, October 14th, at 11:30 a.m. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy a movie in the comfort (and out of the forecasted rain) of the library. Don't say it 3 times, or you will invite a trouble making guest in a black and white striped suit! Don't know it yet? Give us a call at 573-221-0222 and we can share the title.
