This morning, I received a call from Rockland Police requesting assistance with a raccoon who had unfortunately found himself stuck in a drain and needed a little help getting out.
As part of a mutual aid agreement, I provide assistance to surrounding communities when needed. I arrived at approximately 8:20a.m. and assessed the situation. Thankfully, our little raccoon friend appeared to be in good health and was not injured.
I requested through the police to have the Rockland DPW be contacted for assistance in safely removing the drain cover so our little friend could make his way out. Once the cover was removed, I placed a towel over the opening to help shield him from the activity and commotion around him and give him a little sense of security.
It didn’t take long before a little face poked out to take a look around. After checking the area and making sure it was safe, our raccoon friend made his way out and headed into the cover of some tall grass along the woods line of the property.
A successful rescue and a happy ending for this little guy! 🦝🖤🤍🖤
A big thank you to the Rockland DPW and the Facilities Department at Lydia Square Apartments for their assistance and cooperation in getting our raccoon friend safely out of a very unfortunate situation.
We are always happy to lend a helping hand to our neighboring communities when needed!
