🚦 TRAFFIC TIP THURSDAY: GOLF CART SAFETY
Planning to take your golf cart out for a ride? Before hitting a public street or highway, make sure you know the rules of the road!
Here are a few important reminders for South Carolina golf cart operators:
✅ Golf carts must be properly permitted, registered with the SCDMV, and insured.
✅ Drivers must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
✅ Drivers must carry their driver’s license, golf cart registration certificate, and proof of liability insurance while operating on a public highway.
✅ Passengers under 12 years old must wear a fastened seat belt.
✅ Unless a local ordinance provides otherwise, golf carts may only be operated during daylight hours, on qualifying roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less, and within 4 miles of the address listed on the registration certificate or qualifying gated-community entrance.
Remember, local municipalities and counties may have additional rules regarding where, when, and how golf carts can be operated.
Know the rules before you ride. Stay alert, drive responsibly, and help keep our roadways safe!
