It was amazing seeing more than 800 of you who came out to our 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat!

The candy, costumes and community were definitely in full effect! Our officers, staff, volunteers, and community partners enjoyed the opportunity to see the smiling faces, creativity and gratitude as you came out to support and enjoy this family-friendly Halloween celebration.

We want to give a special thanks to the members of the public, local businesses, and organizations who hosted trunks and to The Hershey Company for generously donating the candy our officers handed out!

Last weekend, the Pennsylvania Capitol Police took on the Harrisburg Bureau of Police for a friendly game of Softball at FNB Park.

The matchup was a great way for the officers to spend some leisurely competitive time outside of their daily law enforcement duties and to strengthen the relationship between the two law enforcement agencies.

The final score of 14-12 in favor of the Capitol Police earned bragging rights and set up the beginning of a friendly rivalry in the years to come!

The PA Capitol Police teamed up with the DGS Paint Shop to make the crosswalk across 7th Street much safer for pedestrian traffic!

DGS painters applied a special paint and horizontal bars to the existing crosswalks to improve vehicle operator and pedestrian visibility.

Shortly after the completion of the crosswalk project, the Capitol Police conducted a Pedestrian Safety Detail throughout the Capitol Complex where officers interacted with the public promoting safe walking habits and refreshing them on the Commonwealth’s pedestrian laws.

Stay tuned for more on our efforts to make the 7th Street Capitol Complex corridor safer for pedestrians and motorists!

PA Capitol Police Sergeant Kristie Mogan recently had the chance to spend some time with students of the Young Women’s Empowerment Academy during their recent Career Fair.

Sgt. Morgan talked to them about pursuing a career in law enforcement, her job with the Capitol Police, training and education, suggestions on how to interreact with law enforcement, and best safety practices.

It was a great opportunity to introduce the students to a career path they may not have been exposed to before!

If you or someone you know may be interested in a career in law enforcement, the Capitol Police are hiring individuals with a current Act 120 certification. Visit our Linktree at https://linktr.ee/pagenservices and see what you could be a part of!

Get your career into gear with the Pennsylvania Capitol Police!
Our Bicycle Patrol Unit is one of several specialized units at Capitol Police. Officers perform mobile patrols, assist with crowd control during large events, respond quickly to calls in limited-access locations, and engage with the community!

We also have an International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) trainer on staff, so certification is done in-house!

We are currently hiring individuals who hold a current ACT 120 certification. If successful you could become a Capitol Police Officer and be eligible to join the Bicycle Patrol Unit or any other unit that you qualify for!

In addition to a current ACT 120 certification, you must hold a valid driver’s license and have a passion for law enforcement!

PA Capitol Police officers Edgar Coghill and David Goreski were recently recognized by the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire with the CPR Save Award for their role in saving a state employee’s life through the administration of CPR in February of this year.

The award was part of the HFB annual event to commemorate Fire Prevention Week where they swear-in new firefighters, announce promotions and retirements, present various awards and honor all those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

On hand to support the officers were DGS Deputy Secretary for Facilities & Public Safety Tiffani Johnson Fox, Capitol Police Superintendent Joe Jacob, Lieutenants Justin Chortanoff and John Biesecker, Sergeant Vito Perugino, Corporal Tim Horst with K9 Leo and Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary Danell Frank.

Sometimes, in policing, we run across a situation that makes us understand just how important small things can be.

A citizen recently found herself looking down the storm grate in front of the North Office Building at her AirPod, which somehow fell down it, the first place she turned was to the Capitol Police officers stationed at the North truck Roadway.

After assessing the situation, Sergeant Perugino was able to reunite the citizen with her AirPod and further strengthen the idea that “duct tape can fix any problem!”

Shout out to Sarge and all of our officers who do things - big and small - to help make our Capitol Complex and state facilities better, safer, places!
