Finding work you enjoy can start with discovering what you love to do. For SIC alumnus Hunter Boaz, that meant exploring truck driving, welding and more—and putting those skills to work right here in Southern Illinois. 🚛

Read his story below!

💙💛 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: SUCCESS STORIES 💛💙
Meet Hunter Boaz!

For Hunter Boaz, finding the right career path meant discovering that work could be something he truly enjoys.

Today, Hunter works as a truck driver for Trainor AG, hauling fertilizer, seed, water, and chemicals to farmers throughout Southern Illinois. His update on life after SIC? He’s loving it!

At Southeastern Illinois College, Hunter completed the CDL program and earned his Level 2 welding certification. He also completed about half of the diesel certification coursework and participated on SIC’s archery team.

Those experiences helped Hunter explore his interests and build skills he continues to use. Alongside his driving career, he takes on welding work when opportunities arise, keeping another of his passions an active part of his life.

“SIC and the instructors I had showed me that work absolutely can be fun and enjoyable when you are in the right field.”

When asked about a favorite instructor, Hunter couldn’t choose just one! He credits Coach Ricky, Mark Thomas, Mr. Jones, and Mr. Lindhorst with making his SIC experience a great one.

His memories reach beyond the classroom and workshop, too. Traveling with the archery team gave him opportunities to visit places like Las Vegas and compete in a major collegiate archery competition. Those experiences remain among his favorite moments at SIC. 🏹

His advice to students considering similar paths is simple and encouraging:
“Just go for it, jump in headfirst, and never be afraid to ask questions. Get your hands dirty and try to laugh and enjoy the learning process.”

Hunter, we’re proud to celebrate the skills you’ve built and the career you’re enjoying! Thank you for sharing your story and reminding future students that learning can be hands-on, memorable, and full of possibilities. Your SIC family is cheering you on! 🚛💙💛

📣 YOUR SUCCESS DESERVES TO BE CELEBRATED, TOO!
Have you completed a career and technical education course or program at SIC? We would love to feature you in our Student Spotlight: Success Stories!
Email Rosi Buretz at [email protected] to share your journey. You deserve to be celebrated, too—and your story could inspire someone else to take the first step toward their future!
