Bedford County’s Court of Common Pleas will welcome Martin, the county’s first court facility dog, during a ceremonial swearing-in today at 1 p.m., in Courtroom No. 1 at the Bedford County Courthouse.

Certified through Susquehanna Service Dogs, Martin will work alongside the Bedford County Probation Office and the Court of Common Pleas to provide comfort and support to individuals and families navigating court proceedings, probation appointments and other court-related services.

History was made at Lincoln University. Last week, the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania sat on the campus of the nation’s first degree-granting HBCU, a first for the court, bringing the appellate process directly to the students who may one day argue before it.

Commonwealth Court Judge Lori Dumas, Superior Court Judge Victor Stabile and Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers representative Laurie Besden joined attendees at the Monroe County Bench Bar meeting recently to discuss the critical issue of wellness and civility in the legal profession.
