"Every property that contributes stormwater to CRW's system creates a cost that must be paid by someone", said CEO Charlotte Katzenmoyer. "Allowing some of the largest property owners in Harrisburg to avoid those costs would simply push the costs to homeowners and businesses. That is neither fair nor sustainable."

"We are asking the court to confirm that those who use the system must help pay for it."

Planning an activity near a river, lake or reservoir? Enjoy the water but remember to recreate responsibly! 🚣‍♀️

The places where you boat and fish may be someone's drinking water source. Be aware of posted restrictions limiting swimming or recreational use, as they serve to protect your water quality.

Remember to always pick up pet waste and throw away your trash to avoid potential water contamination. By working together, we can ensure the DeHart Dam, the Susquehanna River, and our local waterways remain beautiful and clean for the future!

Protecting existing water sources is also part of planning for the future. đź’§

As water needs and conditions change, maintaining the quality of the sources communities already rely on can help utilities manage future supply and treatment needs.

At Capital Region Water, we monitor those changes so we can plan ahead and continue providing high-quality drinking water. That includes proactively protecting the Susquehanna River—our vital backup water supply—to ensure a reliable and resilient water system for generations to come!

🏙️ Protecting drinking water starts upstream, and we can’t do it alone.

Source water protection works best when we collaborate to safeguard the water we all rely on. At Capital Region Water, we partner with local stakeholders to care for the natural, forested environments surrounding the DeHart Dam & Reservoir.

When visiting nearby areas, be mindful not to disturb vegetation or degrade the habitats surrounding waterways. They host many types of plants, trees, and other organisms that are critical to protecting and maintaining water quality.

While our primary drinking water comes from the pristine DeHart Dam & Reservoir, the Susquehanna River serves as our vital backup supply—and our daily actions at home directly impact it! 👀

🏡 Limit pesticides and fertilizers used for lawn and yard care. When it rains, or if you overwater your lawn, these substances can travel through runoff and into your water source. Also, do not flush medication; doing so will bring them into the wastewater system and into the environment.

Being mindful at home is a simple, powerful way to partner with us in keeping all of our local waterways resilient and clean! 🫶
