Executive Director Ashley Walkowiak and Commissioner Anna Adams‑Sarthou were proud to join leaders from across the country at the Child Care Innovation Summit, where the focus was clear: strengthening a child care system that millions of families and workers depend on.

Nationally, child care is powered by more than 675,000 businesses (most of them small) and employs over 2 million workers, the vast majority women. Yet the sector continues to face deep challenges, from high turnover and staffing shortages to low wages and limited access to benefits. These pressures have real impact on families, providers, and our workforce.

One of the highlights of the summit was an inspiring keynote conversation between Reshma Saujani and Second Lady Blayre Holmes Davis. Their message underscored how the current system was built - and why this moment is critical for change. The takeaway: women deserve real choices. Some may choose to stay home, some may choose to return to work, and others may need to re‑enter the workforce. Our responsibility is to ensure that every woman has the support and infrastructure to make the choice that’s right for her and her children.

Investing in child care means investing in women, families, and the strength of our communities. We’re grateful to have been part of this important conversation and look forward to continuing the work ahead.

Many women across Pennsylvania shared during the State of the Woman listening tour that navigating insurance coverage can be confusing, time‑consuming, and overwhelming. If you run into insurance issues, you’re not alone.

The Commonwealth’s Consumer Services Online (CSO) Portal is here to help. Pennsylvanians can connect with trained insurance investigators to get support, ask questions, and file concerns.

The power of collective voices was on full display at the Capitol as the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women supported organizations dedicated to advancing policies that impact women in the workplace. Together, we focused on key issues including equal pay, childcare affordability and accessibility, paid family leave, and access to capital.

We were proud to stand alongside:
Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, Forum of Executive Women, and the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Greater Philadelphia.

Additional partners joining the conversation included:
Children First, matchAmint, Entrust Financial, Women’s Way, Maternity Care Coalition, Mom Your Business, Shadow Her, The O’Connor Group, Execuly, AMS Communications, HealthSpark Foundation, and Mosaic Bloom Consulting.

Thank you to the many legislators from across the Commonwealth who engaged in meaningful conversations and listened directly to women about the policies shaping their lives and careers.

Collectively, our voices move us closer to meaningful, lasting change.

October is Menopause Awareness Month - a critical opportunity to elevate understanding and improve access to care for people across Pennsylvania.

Throughout the State of the Woman Listening Tour, we heard from numerous women who shared that they don’t have adequate access to menopause informed specialists and that their symptoms are too often dismissed by medical professionals. These experiences underscore why raising awareness matters: when we talk openly about menopause, we help ensure women receive compassionate care and credible information.

Awareness months like this one shine a light on issues that have been overlooked for far too long. They help spark conversation, drive education, and strengthen efforts to eliminate barriers, especially for women in underserved communities who face disproportionate challenges.

Governor Shapiro’s proclamation recognizes that increasing public understanding of menopause is essential to supporting health and wellbeing, reducing stigma, advancing health equity, and ensuring access to safe, affordable, and inclusive menopause care.

This month, we reaffirm our commitment to listening to women, amplifying their needs, and working toward a Commonwealth where everyone can move through menopause with knowledge, and meaningful support.

Today, we proudly celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the PA Breast Cancer Coalition's annual Turn the Fountain Pink event. This is always a powerful bipartisan show of unity in the fight against breast cancer.

Shout out to the PA Dairymen's Association for treating everyone to free pink milkshakes and helping make the day even more special.

Early detection saves lives, and events like this remind us how important it is to support access to screening, encourage regular checkups, and stand together with survivors and families across the Commonwealth.

Executive Director Ashley Walkowiak, Commissioner Representative Gina Curry, Commissioner Senator Rosemary Brown, and Commissioner Mary Oliveira were all seen sporting their pink with pride - a reminder that when it comes to protecting the health of Pennsylvanians, we’re stronger together. 💗🎀

Eligible Pennsylvanians can continue to vote securely by mail. The United States Supreme Court has blocked a USPS rule that would have unlawfully limited mail‑in voting, ensuring counties can proceed with mailing ballots as usual.

For many women—especially those who are primary caregivers, balancing work, family, and community responsibilities—vote‑by‑mail is a crucial option that supports fuller participation in our elections. Reliable access to mail‑in ballots helps ensure every voice can be heard.
