This Labor Day, we remember the workers of Bethlehem Steel and their contributions to the American labor struggle.

At the height of twentieth-century American industry, workers across the country organized, went on strike, and fought to improve their conditions. The struggle at Bethlehem was one part of a larger history—a story of workers fighting for union recognition, better wages, and security for their families.

We won't forget what American workers built, what they lost, and who took it away.

We built a country once. Let’s do it again.

149 years ago today, the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 erupted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Amid the economic depression following the Panic of 1873, and as the Reconstruction era came to a close, repeated wage cuts led workers to organize walkouts in rail yards across the country, sparking the first nationwide strike in American history. In Pittsburgh these walkouts escalated into a citywide confrontation with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, resulting in a brutal crackdown by the Pennsylvania National Guard, leaving an estimated 61 people dead and more than 100 arrested. The strike in Pittsburgh, together with the broader strike movement of the era revealed critical conflicts between urban industrial workers, bourgeois corporations, and the role of armed state bodies in moments of economic crisis.

The Pennsylvania chapter of the American Communist Party strongly upholds the historical struggle of the brave workers who risked their livelihoods and lives in order to stand up to the same tyrannical system that exploits and plunders our nation to this day.

Solidarity Forever.

On July 4th, the American Communist Party gathered just steps away from Independence Hall in Philadelphia to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.

We reaffirmed that the American Revolution — the people's struggle to fulfill the promise of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness for all — is unfinished.

The ACP vows to fight for the working class and realize the vision of American Marxism.
