🚨 Slowing Down. Moving over. Saves Lives. 🚨

Flashing lights on the roadside mean someone is working to help others. Whether they’re Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, or roadside crews, they all deserve to get home safely.

🚒 Slow down when approaching emergency vehicles.

🚓 Move over when it's safe to do so.

🚑 Stay alert and give responders room to work.

Harrison Fire-Rescue and the Calumet County Sheriff's Office remind you that a few seconds of your time could save someone's life.

Give us room to do our job so we can make it home to our families. ❤️

Please join us in congratulating Captain Matt Lancaster on successfully completing the Wisconsin Fire Investigation course and earning his International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Fire Investigator Certification through the Wisconsin Technical College System.

This intensive 10-day, 86-hour program provided advanced training in fire dynamics, origin and cause determination, science based fire investigation methodologies, live fire demonstrations, report writing, and courtroom testimony through a mock trial experience.

The course was taught by an outstanding group of instructors, including Wisconsin DOJ-DCI Special Agents and Deputy State Fire Marshals, ATF Fire Investigators, Wisconsin DOJ Assistant Attorneys General, and other subject matter experts, providing students with real world knowledge and experience from leaders in the field.

Congratulations, Matt, on this significant achievement and your continued dedication to the fire service!

What an amazing Fire Prevention Week!

This year, Harrison Fire-Rescue had the opportunity to welcome students from local schools, as well as members of the homeschooling community, to our station for hands-on fire and life safety education. We also visited several schools throughout the week, allowing us to connect with even more students across our community.

Through interactive activities, demonstrations, and experiments, students learned important safety lessons in a fun and engaging way. One of our featured topics was lithium-ion battery safety, helping students understand how to safely use and charge the devices they rely on every day.

A big thank you to the teachers, school staff, parents, and families who helped make this week such a success. Most importantly, thank you to all the students for their enthusiasm, participation, and great questions throughout the week.

We had a blast sharing these important safety messages and look forward to continuing to serve our community through fire prevention and public education programs.

Fire Prevention Week is already halfway over, and what a great week it has been!

This year, we made a big change by welcoming students to our fire station instead of only visiting schools. Giving them the chance to tour the station, meet firefighters, and learn important safety lessons firsthand has made Fire Prevention Week a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved.

While we still have several presentations and station visits ahead of us, we want to take a moment to thank Ben Mayer - State Farm Insurance Agent for providing us with material from State Farm and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) that support this year's theme, "Charge Into Fire Safety”. This helps us spread the word about proper charging of lithium ion batteries.

Thank you to all of our students, teachers, and community partners for helping make this week a success. We look forward to continuing the fun and sharing more fire safety lessons throughout the rest of the week!

Home Fire Escape Plan: Choose Your Meeting Spot

If the smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside. Your family should meet at one safe, agreed-upon location away from the home so everyone can be accounted for quickly.

Choose a meeting spot that is:

🚒A safe distance from the home and out of the path of responding fire apparatus
👀Easy for every household member to recognize and reach
🌳A fixed landmark, such as a neighbor’s mailbox, a streetlight, or a special tree
♿Accessible for children, older adults, and anyone with mobility needs

‼Once outside, go directly to the meeting spot, do not go back inside for pets, belongings, or other items. Call 9-1-1 from outside, and stay at the meeting place until firefighters arrive or it is safe to leave.

🗓Plan ahead: Make sure everyone knows two ways out of each room, keep exits clear, and practice your home fire escape plan at least twice a year.

🚒⚡ Fire Prevention Week 2026: Charging Into Fire Safety!⚡🚒

This year's National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire prevention week theme is “Charging Into Fire Safety™," highlights the importance of lithium-ion battery safety. From phones and laptops to power tools and e-bikes, these batteries are part of our daily lives, but improper charging or damaged batteries can pose a serious fire risk.

✅ Use manufacturer-approved chargers
✅ Charge devices on hard, stable surfaces
✅ Never use damaged or swollen batteries
✅ Keep batteries away from combustible materials

5 minute challenge: this week to review your family's charging habits. Check where devices are charging, inspect batteries for damage, and make sure you're using the proper chargers.

A simple safety check today could help prevent a fire tomorrow.
