The City of Harrisonburg will close a drive aisle and some parking areas on the lower level of the Water Street Parking Deck beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, for pavement replacement.

Parking areas adjacent to South Liberty Street will be closed for the
duration of the work. The West Bruce Street entrance and the Water Street exit adjacent to those areas also will be closed. The closures are expected to remain in place until paving is completed at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Parking permit holders will have the option to utilize 4-Hour parking spots at the Water Street Parking Deck, in addition to utilizing the Municipal Parking Lot and the Elizabeth Street Parking Deck if space is limited.

The schedule is subject to change based on weather and paving conditions. Any updates will be posted to the Public Works page.

Please Be Aware: A two-year road construction project along Port Republic Road is underway in Harrisonburg to reduce congestion, manage high-volume student housing and campus traffic, and improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.

Project details:
Devon Lane to Hunters Road:
• Installing a new traffic signal at Bradley Drive with dedicated left-turn lanes.
• Building a concrete median and new pedestrian crosswalks/signals.
• Rebuilding the existing westbound bike lane into a separated, barrier-protected bike lane adjacent to sidewalks.

Bluestone Drive to Crawford Avenue:
• Extending the eastbound left-turn lane at Bluestone Drive to alleviate peak-hour vehicle queuing.
• Constructing a new sidewalk on the south side of the road between Hillside Avenue and Crawford Avenue.
• Adding a median along this specific segment

Traffic delays and lane closures are expected throughout the project timeline. Thank you for your patience, and please be cautious travelling through work-zone areas.

This Saturday October 10th is Household Hazardous Waste Day. Bring your leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients to the Rockingham County Landfill (813 Greendale Road) for free!

Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes can include pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or in some cases putting them out with the trash. The dangers of such disposal methods might not be immediately obvious, but improper disposal of these wastes can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health.
