Honored to be present in Ashford this week to accept a remarkable new interactive interpretive display on behalf of the Town of Ashford, Connecticut, showcasing the town's rich history, notable figures, and key events. This project is the work of Adeline, who has been working hard to earn both her Girl Scouts Gold Award and her Scouting America Eagle Scout rank. In addition to designing and building this educational piece for the Town Hall, she led a years-long effort to clear and restore the significantly overgrown Whipple Cemetery.

Adeline’s leadership, dedication, and respect for local history are truly inspiring. Completing both the Gold Award and the Eagle Scout rank is a rare achievement.

STATE REP. PAT BOYD HONORED WITH TWO STATEWIDE FIRE SERVICE AWARDS

POMFRET, CT - State Representative Pat Boyd (D-Pomfret) received two major statewide awards this week for his leadership and dedication to Connecticut’s fire service. Rep. Boyd received the 2026 Legislator of the Year Award from The Connecticut State Firefighters Association (CSFA) and the 2026 President’s Award from the Connecticut Fire Department Instructors Association (CFDIA).

"I am extremely honored to receive these recognitions from the dedicated men and women of CSFA and CFDIA who keep our communities safe every single day," said Rep. Boyd. "My top priorities remain improving safety, modernizing our fire infrastructure, and ensuring our first responders have the training and resources they need, and it isn't just policy for me, it's something I am passionate about."

Rep. Boyd has led efforts to modernize Connecticut’s fire service as a legislator and Chair of the Public Safety and Security Committee. His legislative achievements include championing comprehensive legislation to restructure the State Fire Administration and develop Connecticut Fire. Rep. Boyd understands firsthand the importance of education in emergency preparedness and has worked to expand access to firefighter training by securing state funding for the Connecticut Fire Academy and regional fire schools statewide.

As the primary author of Connecticut's comprehensive recruitment and retention legislation for Law Enforcement, EMS, and Fire Services, Rep. Boyd introduced incentives to sustain and strengthen first responder ranks, including: College tuition reimbursement for eligible emergency services personnel, Low- or zero-interest home loans tailored for first responders, and a working group to develop State income tax credits for active volunteer firefighters.

Rep. Boyd is an 18-year veteran of the Pomfret Fire Department, where he currently serves as Safety Officer and Company President. He also serves a three-year term as a Commissioner on the State Commission on Fire Prevention & Control, representing the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM CT).

POMFRET - I am pleased to announce that the Connecticut Department of Agriculture has released another round of grants under the CT Grown for CT Kids Program. Lapsley Orchard was awarded $5,000 for their project, “Lapsley Orchard Farm-to-School Season Extension.” This project aims to install a low-tunnel system covering at least 1,000 feet to extend lettuce production earlier and later in the season. This will build on existing weekly summer-to-winter deliveries to Woodstock CT Public Schools and CLiCK Willimantic. Congratulations Lapsley!

“You may get an accomplished officer who spends time in another jurisdiction, and they have kids who are UConn age when they retire from a Hartford or Bridgeport police department, and they might consider transferring to UConn to finish out their career because of that benefit,” said State Representative Pat Boyd, a Mansfield Democrat and co-chair of the Public Safety and Security Committee.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Facing high resignation rates and significant staffing shortages in the University of Connecticut police and fire departments, UConn will offer tuition waivers for public safety personnel and
