SEC staff and United Way Greater Waterbury spent time in Waterbury this week connecting with community partners doing important work on the ground as we roll out Reinvestment (R2) funding.

These visits help us stay connected to the organizations and communities at the heart of this work. We’ll be visiting additional regions in the coming days, and in the months ahead, we’ll engage with community-based organizations to offer organizational capacity-building opportunities and training.

We’re grateful for the work our partners are doing. More to come—stay tuned!

Housing is more than a place to live. It affects health, stability, and opportunity.

The Connecticut Social Equity Council was proud to join partners at the CT Department of Housing Conference to discuss supportive housing, homelessness prevention, and the partnerships needed to move solutions forward.

The harm of the war on drugs reaches beyond the criminal legal system. It has also shaped access to housing and economic opportunity. Building equity means addressing those connected barriers and putting communities at the center of change.

You know the saying, “Money can’t buy happiness…” but it CAN be reinvested into Connecticut communities! 👀

And here’s the bigger conversation: Social equity is about more than funding. It’s about what happens AFTER the investment.

It’s about creating opportunities and supporting entrepreneurs. Strengthening communities.
Building partnerships.

And making sure the people and places disproportionately impacted by the War on Drugs are part of Connecticut’s economic future.

That’s why we’re bringing everyone to the table on November 18 for the Connecticut Social Equity Council’s 2026 Annual Impact Summit: Building What’s Next!

📍 Goodwin University | East Hartford

From community reinvestment to entrepreneurship, workforce development, and the cannabis industry, we’re moving the conversation from investment to IMPACT.

WHAT’S NEXT? 👀 We’re bringing the conversation together.

The Social Equity Council’s Annual Meeting is evolving into our Annual Impact Summit — a day focused on the work, the impact, and what comes next.

This year, we’re creating space for deeper conversations through Impact + Community and Cannabis Industry breakout sessions — bringing together state leaders, community partners, industry voices, entrepreneurs, and the people doing this work every day.

We’ll dig into everything from community reinvestment and workforce development to partnerships, social equity programs, cannabis business resources, marketing, and the future of Connecticut’s adult-use industry.

And yes — there’s much more to come. 👀

📅 Wednesday, November 18
📍 Goodwin University
⏰ 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM

We know our communities and we’re invested in their future.

Connecticut currently has 36 municipalities that contain Disproportionately Impacted Areas. DIAs are more than lines on a map — they are neighborhoods, families, entrepreneurs, and communities with unique strengths, needs, and opportunities.

At the Social Equity Council, we’re committed to staying connected to the communities we serve, understanding the challenges they face, and supporting efforts that create meaningful and lasting opportunities.
