Congratulations to North Haven’s Lucas John Santanello on earning the rank of Eagle Scout!

It was an honor to present him with a legislative citation recognizing this outstanding achievement.

As a member of Troop 633 and a recent graduate of North Haven High School, Lucas has demonstrated leadership, dedication, and a commitment to serving others.

For his Eagle Scout project, he designed and built a flag retirement drop box for VFW Post 12106 in Branford, giving residents a place to respectfully retire worn American flags.

Lucas, congratulations on this well-deserved achievement! Thank you for your hard work, your patriotism, and your service to our community. Wishing you continued success in all that you do! 🇺🇸

Connecticut families need relief at the pump and we have the ability to do something about it.

Recently I joined Mike Hydeck on NBC Connecticut’s Face the Facts to discuss our proposal to temporarily suspend Connecticut’s gas and diesel taxes through the end of the year.

We did this in 2022 when gas prices were high. Republicans and Democrats came together because families needed relief. There’s no reason we can’t work together again.

Connecticut has a surplus in its Special Transportation Fund, and we’re calling for a special session to put some of that money back into the pockets of hardworking families.

We’re elected to represent the people of Connecticut, and we have a responsibility to use the tools available to us here at home.

This shouldn’t be about Republicans or Democrats. It’s about putting people over politics and providing relief when families need it most.

Columbus Day has always held a special meaning for Italian Americans, myself included. It’s a day to take pride in where we come from, celebrate our traditions, and recognize the generations of Italian Americans who have helped build and strengthen this country.

As a proud Italian American, I’m grateful for the values of family, hard work, faith, and community that have been passed down through generations.

Everyone should take pride in their heritage and where they come from. I’m proud to celebrate mine today alongside Italian Americans across Connecticut.

Happy Columbus Day! 🇮🇹🇺🇸

A wonderful evening celebrating Italian heritage, family, and community right here in Greater New Haven! 🇮🇹

As a proud Italian American myself, it was especially meaningful to attend last night’s Greater New Haven Italian Heritage Dinner at Anthony's Ocean View and celebrate the traditions, values, and people who make our Italian American community so special.

Congratulations to this year’s deserving honorees:

🇮🇹 Nick Casella – Italian American of the Year

🏅 James DiCarlo – Laura Luzzi Award

🚒 Todd Ricci – Fire Public Safety Award

🚔 Antonio DePascale – Police Public Safety Award

Family, hard work, service, and community are values that have been passed down through generations of Italian American families, including my own. It’s wonderful to see those values reflected in individuals who continue to give back and make a difference.

Thank you to everyone who helped put together such a special evening. Congratulations again to all the honorees!

This Friday, October 9, DCP will be hosting a Ratio Relief Seminar to help employers and members of the trades better understand the new ratio relief process and how it can help create more apprenticeship opportunities.

The seminar begins at 1:00 PM and is available both in person in Hartford and virtually through Microsoft Teams.

I worked hard to bring people on both sides of the aisle together and find a commonsense solution. Now, I want to make sure businesses and tradespeople know how to take advantage of it.

In Person:
450 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford
Plaza North, Room C/D

Parking:
Street parking is available, as well as the Morgan Street Parking Garage on the corner. Please allow extra time to park and check in with security before the seminar.

Attend Virtually:
Join the seminar through Microsoft Teams https://teams.microsoft.com/dl/launcher/launcher.html?url=%2F_%23%2Fl%2Fmeetup-join%2F19%3Ameeting_MDViZDIzNWQtMzIzMC00YWVkLWI0MDktZGExZTZiNzAzNTlj%40thread.v2%2F0%3Fcontext%3D%257b%2522Tid%2522%253a%2522118b7cfa-a3dd-48b9-b026-31ff69bb738b%2522%252c%2522Oid%2522%253a%25225a51b085-f907-455f-ab86-1a3f8a5742ec%2522%257d%26anon%3Dtrue&type=meetup-join&deeplinkId=bcc903cc-4e15-484f-9f54-434c8b1e8bf9&directDl=true&msLaunch=true&enableMobilePage=true&suppressPrompt=true

Good policy starts with listening to the people doing the job!

Today I joined police officers from across Connecticut at the Connecticut Police Summit for an important conversation about public safety, the challenges officers are facing, and how decisions made in Hartford impact them.

These conversations matter. Hearing directly from law enforcement helps us better understand what’s working, what needs to change, and how we can work together to keep our communities safe.

Thank you to the Police Officers Association of Connecticut (POACT) for bringing officers and lawmakers together and making sure their voices are heard.

Yesterday, legislators from both sides of the aisle met directly with Amazon to raise the concerns we have been hearing from our constituents and ask questions about the proposal. There are still questions that need to be answered, but one positive takeaway from that conversation is that residents will have additional opportunities to be heard.

Amazon has committed to holding a public forum, with details still to be determined, where residents will have an opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns directly. DEEP has also extended its public-comment period through October 15.

We are actively working on this, meeting with the agencies and parties involved, asking questions and making sure the concerns you bring to us are brought directly to the table.

I will continue to keep you updated as we learn more, including when the public forum is scheduled.

In the meantime, please continue to make your voice heard. Written comments can be submitted to DEEP through October 15 at: [email protected]

DEEP has extended the public comment period and will accept public comments on this matter until October 15, 2026. Public comments may be submitted to the following email address: [email protected]

Connecticut families are paying enough at the pump.

Yesterday I met with WFSB - Channel 3 Eyewitness News to talk about how the state can suspend the 25-cent gas tax now and provide immediate relief to drivers.

There’s no reason to wait. We have the ability to act today, and I’ll continue pushing for relief for Connecticut taxpayers.

We can easily do it now and should not put politics before people.

State Republicans are pushing to suspend the state’s 25-cent gas tax through the end of the year, but they need Gov. Ned Lamont to call an immediate special session.

I want to clarify where things stand with Amazon’s proposed drone delivery operation in North Haven.

While it’s been reported Amazon has agreed to a temporary pause, the state regulatory review and public-comment process are continuing.

The FAA completed its environmental review on July 28 and found no significant environmental impact. Connecticut is now conducting its own review under the state’s coastal management requirements, with public comments being accepted through October 15.

I will be meeting with Amazon on October 5 to discuss the proposal and the concerns I have heard from residents and local officials.

Most importantly, this process is not over. Residents still have an opportunity to make their voices heard, and I encourage anyone with questions or concerns to submit written comments to the state.

My priority is making sure our communities are heard and that the appropriate state and federal reviews are completed before any final decision are made.
