The Republican approach with HR 1 gets it backwards. It treats health care as something people earn by working. But people need to be healthy in order to work. Cut coverage and food assistance, and families will be hurt.

The estimated 100,000 customers who are projected to lose their healthcare coverage as a result of new requirements mandated by HR1 next year are families, neighbors and community members, Charter Oak Health Center President and CEO Vernette Townsend said Monday.

Today is National Mammography Day, a vital reminder that breast cancer can be silent, but early detection speaks volumes. Regular screenings catch things before symptoms even start. Check in on yourself and remind the women you love to book theirs too!

$12.7 million is being allocated from Connecticut’s Federal Cuts Response Fund to supplement home heating assistance for eligible households during the 2026–27 winter season. With heating costs on the rise, this funding will provide meaningful relief for low-income households struggling to make ends meet and help ensure that Connecticut residents can keep their homes warm during the cold winter months.

Who qualifies?

Households with annual gross incomes at or below 60% of the state median income may qualify. For a family of four, that means an annual income of $93,681 or less for the 2026–27 heating season. Some households receiving benefits such as SNAP, Temporary Family Assistance, or Supplemental Security Income may also qualify. The program prioritizes older adults, families with children under age six, and people with disabilities.

Applications are now open.

First day for program-paid fuel deliveries: November 2
Application deadline: May 31, 2027
Please note: You must apply each year to receive assistance
