As the 2026 summer season comes to a close, our Connecticut State Park Lifeguards are officially off duty!

Thank you to every lifeguard who spent the summer watching the water, responding to emergencies, making rescues, providing medical care, training hard, and helping keep our parks safe. Your dedication and teamwork made another successful season possible.

To everyone visiting our parks after the guarded season: please remember that lifeguards are no longer on duty. Use extra caution around the water, know your limits, and never swim alone!

Labor Day weekend is here, and our lifeguards are still on duty keeping watch over Connecticut’s waters!

You can find CT State Park Lifeguards on duty this weekend at:
• Hammonasset Beach State Park — Madison
• Rocky Neck State Park — Niantic
• Silver Sands State Park — Milford
• Squantz Pond State Park — New Fairfield

Even as summer starts winding down, water safety doesn’t. Conditions can change quickly, and our lifeguards remain ready to respond to water rescues, medical emergencies, and anything else that comes their way.

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, stay safe, and remember: the safest place to swim is near a lifeguard.🛟

As summer begins to wind down and the school year gets closer, beach season isn’t over just yet.

Our lifeguards are still on the stands, watching the water, protecting our visitors, and staying ready to respond at a moment’s notice. If you’re holding on to these last days of summer, remember to swim near a lifeguard and stay safe while enjoying the shoreline.

Congratulations to Mike Zapor on being named both Hammonasset Beach State Park’s Lifeguard of the Year and the overall CT State Parks Lifeguard of the Year!

In just his second season, Mike has proven what it means to be a dedicated lifeguard. From responding to water rescues and medical emergencies to consistently pushing himself through physical training, Mike takes pride in being prepared when someone needs help most.

His dedication extends beyond his regular lifeguard responsibilities. Mike represents CT State Parks at lifeguard competitions, putting his rescue skills, physical fitness, teamwork, and training to the test alongside other lifeguards.

And the work doesn’t stop when summer ends. During the off-season, Mike earned his EMT certification to further his medical knowledge and strengthen the care he can provide both on and off the beach.

Congratulations, Mike! An incredible accomplishment and a well-earned recognition.

The Kaity Bell Award recognizes a CT State Park Lifeguard who brings more than just skill to the job. It honors someone who is outgoing, uplifting, hardworking, and consistently brings positive energy to their squad.

Larry embodies exactly what this award represents. He is the kind of guard who keeps morale high, supports the people around him, brings energy to even the longest days, and goes above and beyond while making sure the job gets done right.

Outside of his normal lifeguard responsibilities, Larry continued to step up wherever he was needed. From helping with the Junior Lifeguard Program to taking on extra maintenance in the first aid shack, his willingness to lend a hand and do more than what was expected truly stood out this season.

Being a great lifeguard isn’t only about what you do during an emergency. It’s also about the teammate you are every single day and the impact you have on the people around you.

Congratulations, Larry Weaver, on receiving the Kaity Bell Award and representing the heart, attitude, and spirit we want throughout the CT State Park Lifeguard Program!

Congratulations to Bobby Gugliotti, our 2026 CT State Parks Lifeguard Rookie of the Year! 🏆🌊

In his first season, Bobby has already proven himself when it matters most—responding to water rescues, providing medical care, and demonstrating the skill, confidence, and teamwork expected of a CT State Parks Lifeguard.

When he’s not on the lifeguard stand, Bobby continues his dedication to the water as a swimmer at Eastern Connecticut State University.

An incredible first season and a well-earned recognition. Congratulations, Bobby! 🛟

After 14 years of dedicated service to the CT State Parks Lifeguard Program, we are proud to recognize Alex Rambadt with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Over the years, Alex has been so much more than a lifeguard. She has been a leader, mentor, instructor, teammate, friend and supporter to countless guards who have come through this program. Her dedication to training the next generation of lifesavers and her commitment to keeping others safe have left a lasting impact on this program.

While her time in lifeguarding may have come to an end, her commitment to helping others certainly isn’t. Alex is taking everything lifeguarding has taught her — leadership, compassion, teamwork, resilience, and the ability to remain calm when it matters most — into her career as a paramedic.

14 years on the water. A lifetime of impact. And now, onto the next chapter of saving lives.

Congratulations, Alex, and thank you for everything you have given to the CT State Parks Lifeguard Program. Lifeguards for life!
