TRAFFIC ALERT – DOWNTOWN HARTFORD

The traffic signals on the Square in downtown Hartford are currently not functioning.

⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDER: When approaching an intersection with nonworking traffic signals, drivers should treat the intersection as a FOUR-WAY STOP.

🛑 Come to a complete stop before entering the intersection.

🛑 Yield the right-of-way to other vehicles as required.

🛑 Proceed only when it is safe to do so.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has been notified of the issue, and efforts are underway to restore the traffic signals.

We ask everyone to slow down, remain alert, and use extra caution when traveling through the downtown area.

PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE – HARTFORD, ALABAMA

Although the worst of the severe weather appears to have passed, there is still considerable storm damage throughout the City of Hartford.

City employees, utility crews, and emergency personnel are working diligently to restore power, clear roadways, remove debris, and address the damage left behind by the storm.

We are asking everyone to PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADWAYS unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Unnecessary traffic creates additional hazards and makes it more difficult for crews to safely and efficiently do their jobs. It also increases the risk of traffic accidents and other emergencies that divert valuable resources away from ongoing recovery efforts.

Please be patient, avoid damaged areas, and never drive around barricades or approach downed power lines.

Our city employees and emergency personnel have been working tirelessly, and the best way you can help right now is by giving them the space they need to work safely.

We appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and cooperation as our community works to recover from this storm.

PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE – ALL CITY OF HARTFORD ROADWAYS ARE CLOSED

The Hartford Police Department is urging everyone to STAY HOME AND OFF THE ROADWAYS unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Heavy rainfall, standing water, fallen trees, downed power lines, and debris can make roadways extremely dangerous.

Please understand that every unnecessary vehicle on the roadway creates an additional risk. Traffic accidents and stranded motorists require valuable emergency resources that may be needed elsewhere during this storm.

We ask everyone to cooperate with law enforcement, emergency responders, and utility crews as they work to keep our communities safe.

If you do not absolutely have to be on the road, STAY HOME. Do not attempt to drive around barricades or travel on closed roadways.

HURRICANE ISAIAS – WEATHER UPDATE

The weather is beginning to look pretty dreary here in Hartford, and conditions are expected to deteriorate as Hurricane Isaias approaches our area.

According to the latest briefing from the National Weather Service, our area can expect heavy rainfall, strong winds, and the potential for severe weather, including tornadoes, as we move through tonight and into Saturday.

We strongly encourage everyone to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and take this storm seriously.

A few important reminders:

* Stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. Heavy rainfall could lead to flooded roadways and hazardous driving conditions.
* Stay weather-aware. Tornadoes can develop quickly, so keep a reliable way to receive weather alerts.
* Never drive through flooded roadways. You cannot always tell how deep the water is.
* Stay away from downed power lines and report any dangerous conditions.

With the approaching hurricane expected to impact our area, the Hartford Police Department encourages everyone to take the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their families safe.

During the most severe weather conditions, Hartford Police Department officers will temporarily suspend responses to non-emergency calls out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our officers and the public.

We will continue to respond to emergency calls to the best of our ability, as weather and road conditions safely permit. Please understand that severe conditions may delay emergency response times.

We encourage everyone to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain alert to changing weather conditions.

For emergencies, please call 911.

The safety of our citizens and officers remains our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to get through this storm safely.
