October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic violence can affect every part of a survivor’s life, including their ability to find and maintain safe, stable housing.

For survivors, leaving an abusive relationship can mean navigating difficult housing decisions, finding a new place to live, protecting their privacy, understanding their rights, or facing discrimination.

Safe housing is part of safety.

The Center works to ensure that survivors understand and can exercise their fair housing rights. No one should have to choose between safety and a place to call home.

Fair Housing Myth vs. Fact

Myth: A landlord can refuse to rent to someone because they use Section 8 or another housing assistance program.
