🦭 Meet Pearl, the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk's very first female grey seal! After a long journey of rescue and rehabilitation (and patient, dedicated prep by an amazing team), this smart, sweet, and wonderfully stubborn pup has officially settled in to Pinniped Cove.

Though a spinal deformity means she swims a little differently using her front flippers, it hasn't slowed her down one bit! Pearl's journey reflects the effort required to care for marine mammals that can't return to the wild, and we're grateful that she's been given a new chance to thrive at The Maritime Aquarium 🫶

Did you know Connecticut’s witch trials began decades before Salem?

Beginning in the 1640s, dozens of people in colonial Connecticut were accused of witchcraft. At least 11 were executed, including Alice Young of Windsor, believed to be the first person executed for witchcraft in the American colonies.

In 2023, the Connecticut General Assembly formally acknowledged these injustices, absolving those convicted and apologizing to their descendants.

Meet Banana Made Pottery (Jana 🍌Rutty), a woman-owned pottery business based in Deep River. Owner Jana Rutty first started working with clay in 2019 and now creates her pieces from her home studio, experimenting with different techniques, shapes and glaze combinations. Her work ranges from functional pottery for around the home to tiny, whimsical pieces that have become a favorite with Big E fairgoers.

Banana Made Pottery has been part of the CT Building for the last four years, which Jana says has helped introduce her work to new customers and grow her business.

Be sure to stop by and shop Banana Made Pottery at the CT Building during The Big E this year!

Connecticut is getting some well-deserved recognition for its natural beauty 🌿

A new study from Holafly, recently shared by Travel + Leisure, ranked Connecticut the #4 state in the U.S. for natural beauty, based on factors including forest coverage, rivers and waterways, waterfalls, mountain elevation and national parks.

With 58.3% of the state covered in forest, plus plenty of waterfalls, rivers and scenic landscapes packed into our small state, we can’t say we’re too surprised. 👏

Connecticut even ranked ahead of Hawaii, Washington and California. 👀 Read more at the link in our bio.
