I had so much fun recently attending the official grand opening for Newington’s Candlewyck Park with Mayor Jon Trister, many other public officials, town staff, and families from town.

Congratulations to the Parks & Recreation staff and board for all their hard work in creating a beautiful and updated park, that is now compliant with disability accessibility standards. I’m also proud that the state chipped in $400,000 to help pay for it.

The wonderful impact of having safe spaces where people can truly be themselves, cannot be understated. Our state's LGBTQIA+ Centers accomplish just that.

Go to portal.ct.gov and search “LGBTQIA+ Services” to see a list of CT based centers.

Today is National Mammography Day, a vital reminder that breast cancer can be silent, but early detection speaks volumes. Regular screenings catch things before symptoms even start. Check in on yourself and remind the women you love to book theirs too!

“Indigenous Peoples Day is a powerful reminder that the stories, wisdom, and resilience of the first inhabitants of this land deserve recognition, honor, and celebration. It is a time to embrace diversity, heal historical wounds, and forge a future of unity and respect for all cultures. “

It was a great evening Saturday joining my colleagues in the New Britain legislative delegation and Mayor Bobby Sanchez for the New Britain NAACP’s 2026 Freedom Fund Dinner!

This year’s theme, “We the People,” was a powerful reminder of the importance of standing together, protecting civil rights, advancing equality, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Congratulations to all of this year’s award recipients for their outstanding service, leadership, and contributions to our community!

A special thank you to New Britain NAACP President Jan Edwards and the entire chapter for their tireless dedication to justice, equality, and strengthening our community.

I’m proud to support the important work of the NAACP and look forward to continuing our partnership to build a stronger, more inclusive New Britain for everyone!
