Yesterday, I joined members of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) for two stops on their 2026 Manufacturing Tour for a behind-the-scenes look at some of Connecticutโ€™s leading manufacturers, including Ulbrich Stainless Steel and Specialty Metals Inc., and B*K Additives in Wallingford.

Having industry-leading manufacturers like these located right here is a tremendous boost for Wallingford, and it's always a pleasure to meet with the people and businesses that help keep our town and state moving forward through continued innovation, employment, investment, and volunteerism in the community.

During the tour of Ulbrich, we met with executives, shop foremen, and the workers who roll, shape and split metal into incredibly specialized configurations depending on customer need. Safety is a top priority for the company, and everyone was provided with safety glasses and cut-resistant arm sleeves before we stepped onto the shop floor.

According to the company, Ulbrich is a precision re-roller and distributor of precision metals used in the medical, automotive, and aerospace industries with 14 locations in five countries across North America, Asia and Europe. In business since Fred Ulbrich Sr. began a scrap metal reselling business in 1924, today, Ulbrich Stainless Steel and Specialty Metals is a fourth-generation, family-owned business with a global workforce of more than 800 employees

Honored to participate in this morning's Middlesex Chamber of Commerce (Durham/Middlefield Division)'s 2026 Annual Candidate Forum, along with State Representative Vincent Candelora and Lisa Deane for Senate.

Our discussions ranged from business climate, tax policy, education funding, and even warrantless surveillance by law enforcement. I very much appreciated listening to these small business owners, and learning more about them.

Wallingford's John Street Bridge serves a vital function for many local businesses. After decades of use, it is in need of significant repair. I am proud to submit a letter of support for the town's application to the federal government for help in funding this important transportation infrastructure project.

Today we celebrate the life of Christopher Columbus, a great Italian explorer who set out for the unknown and discovered the New World in 1492. His legacy of brave exploration continues to inspire us.

Connecticut has the highest percentage of Italian-American residents of any state in the nation. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ซ

From time to time, state government will incentivize economic development by giving tax breaks to businesses, based upon their employment of Connecticut residents - a laudable goal. On one hand, these breaks increase the taxes of those not able to take advantage, so (overall economically) it is a balancing test. Here however, state government is advocating for, and LOWERING the employment requirement to get the tax breaks?!? The bill passed (of course).

โ€œThe auditors also noted that DRS officials were 'unable' to provide them with documentation proving that the agency had completed performance evaluations for 'all ten managers and confidential employees' whose salary increases depend upon these evaluations. The auditors noted that this finding had been previously reported in the APAโ€™s last three DRS audits. DRS officials did not deny the finding, but asserted that the agencyโ€™s 'senior management has significant interaction with its managers' through which they monitor and discuss manager performance.โ€

For those of you interested in the proposed drone deliveries by Amazon Prime Air, slated to begin in the next year or so in a delivery area to include most of Wallingford, and a bit of Middlefield, here are the notes from the recent legislative briefing, attended by about a dozen legislators, including myself.

Please be reminded that Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is still soliciting comments from the public about these potential drone deliveries.

You can submit your input by emailing them ๐›๐ž๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐Ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ at [email protected]. Please feel free to send me a copy at [email protected] as I am interested to learn more about how this new technology may impact (or perhaps benefit) those whom I represent.
