Yesterday , The CHRO joined community leaders, advocates, educators, and civic organizations at CIVICSCON: Building Connecticut’s Civic Future, hosted by the Connecticut Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity (CWCSEO).
The event brought together voices from across the state for meaningful conversations about civic engagement, voting, community connection, and equity—values that closely align with CHRO’s mission and work.
The program included information on Connecticut’s voting and voter-registration processes, engagement with local schools, and discussions about strengthening civic participation. Keynote speaker Frederick J. Riley, Executive Director of Weave: The Social Fabric Project at the Aspen Institute, emphasized the importance of knowing the communities we serve and building relationships proactively, encouraging attendees to “prepare for the storm that’s coming, today.”
Panel discussions further explored finding your voice in civic work, using individual talents to serve others, and being intentional about outreach. A central message throughout the day was that meaningful change requires going directly into communities, listening to their experiences, and ensuring people have the information and opportunities needed to participate fully.
These principles are reflected in CHRO’s work every day. Through civil rights enforcement, education, outreach, and community engagement, CHRO works to address barriers to equal opportunity while building relationships with the people and communities we serve.
CIVICSCON reinforced a shared vision: stronger communities are built when people are informed, connected, empowered, and included. CHRO is proud to continue that work alongside partners across Connecticut.
