**Friday, October 9, 2026 | Morning Weather Update**
⚠️ **GENEVA COUNTY RESIDENTS: PREPARE FOR DETERIORATING WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY!**
According to the National Hurricane Center's 4:00 AM CDT advisory, Hurricane Isaias has strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of **110 mph**. The storm is moving north-northeast at approximately 15 mph toward the northern Gulf Coast.
Forecasters expect additional strengthening before landfall, possibly reaching Category 3 intensity.
📍 **WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR GENEVA COUNTY?**
Communities including Geneva, Hartford, Slocomb, Samson, Malvern, Coffee Springs and surrounding rural areas (all of Geneva County) should prepare for the following:
💨 **STRONG WINDS:** The latest reported local forecast calls for winds of 20–30 mph with gusts around 45 mph. Stronger gusts remain possible, particularly in heavier rainbands. Falling trees and power outages are concerns.
🌧️ **HEAVY RAINFALL & FLOODING:** Several inches of rainfall are possible, with localized flash flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas. Never attempt to drive across flooded roads.
🌪️ **TORNADO THREAT:** Isolated tornadoes are possible as tropical rainbands move across southeast Alabama. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially overnight.
🔦 **POWER OUTAGES:** Residents should prepare for the possibility of losing electricity. Charge phones, gather flashlights, secure outdoor belongings and check emergency supplies.
⏰ **EXPECTED TIMELINE — CENTRAL TIME**
🌤️ **FRIDAY MORNING:** Increasing clouds and breezy conditions. Complete storm preparations.
🌧️ **FRIDAY AFTERNOON:** Rainbands may begin increasing, bringing periods of heavy rain and gusty winds.
⚠️ **FRIDAY EVENING THROUGH OVERNIGHT:** This is the period of greatest concern for Geneva County. Strong winds, heavy rainfall, isolated tornadoes and power outages are possible.
🌦️ **SATURDAY MORNING:** Hazardous conditions may continue before gradually improving as the storm moves away from our area.
❤️ **A REMINDER TO OUR COMMUNITY**
Please check on elderly neighbors, those living alone, and anyone who depends on electricity for medical equipment. Residents in mobile homes should identify a sturdier place to shelter before severe weather arrives.
**MY ASSESSMENT:** Geneva County may not experience the hurricane's strongest winds, but we should not underestimate the dangers of tropical rainbands, falling trees, flooding and isolated tornadoes. The greatest concern is the potential for hazardous conditions during the nighttime hours.
Please take preparations seriously, but don't panic. Stay informed and stay safe!
